DC Boom heard in parts of Maryland & Virginia.

Around 3pm ET, today, a Private Cessna Jet reportedly was supposed to land at Long Island, New York, but turned around and headed back to Washington DC, flight paths show. 

Citation 560 Encore is registered to an owner in Hollywood, Florida according to a few aviation sources on Twitter.

The plane 'violated DC airspace' & flew over DC unrestricted. The Pentagon scrambled fighter jets from Joint Base Andrews to intercept - which they say caused the sonic boom[s].

The plane eventually crashed over Staunton Virginia, reportedly in the mountain region.

Only speculation on why it crashed. Ran out of fuel… shot down…. Or something else.

Military officials deny the crash was caused by pursuit.
