Pennsylvania Voting Machines Found to be Flipping Votes— Here’s The Rundown
• WHERE?
North Hampton County, Pennsylvania
• WHAT RACE WAS AFFECTED?
Retention Questions for Superior Court judges Jack Panella (D) and Victor P. Stabile (R).
• WHAT HAPPENED?
Voters noticed their votes were being flipped on the receipt paper after voting.
Poll workers across the county then began pulling their machines off-line and relied on provisional ballots.
It was determined that If a voter cast a “Yes” vote for one of the incumbents, but a “No” vote for the other, the votes come out flipped.
Officials only made the public aware of this issue thanks to a 2019 lawsuit that JUST settled in August 2023..
This lawsuit says county officials MUST notify the public of any voting machine problems.
• SOLUTION?
Northampton County Judge Abe Kassis ruled Tuesday morning that the county could continue to use the machines… 🤦🏻♂️
In cases where the error would pop up for the retention question, the county would flip the results during the post-election canvass.
Glenn Geissinger, chair of the Northampton County Republican Committee, said his party intends to appeal this decision because he doesn’t like the idea of allowing the county to interpret how flipped votes should be handled.
• PROBLEMS SINCE 2019
These new machines were purchased in 2019, but ran into many different issues such as oversized touchscreens not properly calibrated, making it difficult to select your desired candidate.
That’s not all…
Then Country Judge, Abe Kassis, received absolutely no votes.
An investigation found his electronic votes were not being saved
The election was salvaged through the review of print receipts and Kassis won his spot on the bench.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
While “errors” do occur, this has happened far too often the last few years to be chalked up as another fluke.
Are we supposed to trust the county to interpret how flipped votes were intended to be recorded? Trust us bro…
