It may have escaped your notice, but the US Gov. just moved today to sanction Ethereum addresses associated with a privacy service called Tornado cash that (theoretically) anonymized Cryptocurrency so that it cannot be traced.

Circle froze the USDC in those accounts. GitHub immediately suspended contributors to Tornado.
