So far, 200 homes have been demolished in the Jenin camp as part of the military operation in the northern West Bank. Following the demolition, the camp's appearance has changed dramatically. Most residents have left, and a battalion has been deployed around it to prevent the return of militants. What's new is that the army intends to prevent Palestinians from rebuilding in the demolished areas, whether roads or homes, in order to maintain the ability to maneuver within the camp quickly and effectively.
This measure is exceptional and perhaps unprecedented, as the army seeks to reshape the camp architecturally, making it just another neighborhood within the city. Similar steps were taken in the Nur Shams camp, but on a smaller scale, where approximately 30 homes were demolished. In Tulkarm, 15 homes were demolished.
The Central Command is discussing similar plans targeting all 18 camps in the West Bank, and is ready to implement them if any camp behaves in the same way as Jenin.
