In essence, Plath’s speakers are monstered, alien, or uncanny because they are a chimera of remnants housed within a present body. The terrifying quality of Plath’s speaker is not merely that she is a zombie-like figure who eternally reemerges and replays a repressed past in order to destabilize limits, but that she replays a past which was never known to begin with.
