Moody's analytical report published on September 6 states that the combination of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technologies could redefine sectors of the global economy. According to the authors, these innovations will not only affect corporate balance sheets, but also "turn entire sectors upside down" or create new markets from scratch.
Historically, new technologies have been able to drastically shrink or even destroy old industries. For example, thanks to AI, new areas of education, medicine or content creation could emerge. At the same time, blockchain has already spawned cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance.
The report emphasizes that AI will drive economic growth by automating tasks. Blockchain could increase financial inclusion and modernize payment systems, though we may not see the real benefits until a decade from now.
