Albatrosses can sleep during flight. While one part of the brain sleeps, the other part remains active and helps the bird not to fall and crash into an obstacle.

Dolphins have the same ability to swim in their sleep.

In Africa's shallow freshwater lakes and ponds live unusual fish - protopters. If their body of water suddenly dries up, they can live without water for months simply by burrowing into the ground.

With the onset of the dry season, the protopter begins to prepare for hibernation. During this time, it digs a nest, where it will stay for six to nine months, or even longer, until water returns. This fish digs its hole with its mouth, throwing crushed soil through the gill slits. When the "bedroom" is ready, the protopter climbs into it and stays there until the water completely recedes.

Study: even a little sleep deprivation increases your risk of heart disease.

Scientists from the United States conducted an experiment involving 35 healthy women who sleep 7-8 hours every day. Six weeks they followed the usual routine, and the other six weeks they went to bed an hour and a half later.

It turned out that oxidative stress levels increased by 78% even after mild sleep deprivation. This means that inflammation and dysfunction - an early stage in the development of cardiovascular disease - was occurring in the cells.
