Researchers have found that about 4.5 billion years ago, in the early stages of our planet's formation, another planet called Teia collided with the Earth. As a result of this collision, one part of Teia became the Moon and the other part remained inside the Earth.

Scientists believe that these are the remains of Theia. They are located roughly under the Pacific Ocean and under Africa.
