In the experiment, participants ate 30g of cheese before bed four nights in a row, and here's what happened:

- 93% reported disturbing and vivid nightmares,
- On average lost 1 hour and 7 minutes of sleep per night,
- The most frequent nightmares were caused by brie (68%), followed by stilton, cheddar and mozzarella.

The culprit is tyramine in the composition of cheese: it stimulates the production of noradrenaline and overloads the brain during sleep.

To get a good night's sleep, doctors advise against eating cheese at least 3 hours before bedtime.
