During the 2020 lockdown, students who won exchange programs from Uzbekistan were not able to travel to the United States. American Councils organized a Youth Leadership Conference to bring together the young leaders and get them working on projects to develop in their communities around the country.
From June 12-14, 76 finalists and semifinalists from the TechGirl Exchange, SUSI Women’s Leadership program, CIEE work and travel, FLEX, Global UGRAD, and YPIP programs attended a conference focused on project management and design led by American Councils staff and a team of U.S. Government alumni mentors and Fulbright English Teaching Assistants. In addition to learning the steps to develop and organize community projects, participants learned and developed their leadership skills through experiential teambuilding activities. The conference also included a series of pre-event trainings through Zoom.
