Ethiopia has received more than 100,000 Sudanese since the conflict began. Authorities have provided some assistance but impose fees of $100 for monthly visa renewals and fines of $300 for each month of delayed renewal.
S.M., a stranded woman who fled to Ethiopia, told Sudan Tribune that the reality facing Sudanese men & women due to displacement “was catastrophic.”
She explained that renewing monthly entry visas has become an extremely difficult and exhausting procedure amid war, loss of income, and scarce resources. This complicates life & is burdensome and costly under the circumstances, she said.
She called on the Ethiopian government to intervene, as it had previously, by granting the Sudanese a nine-month exemption.

#Sudan relief operations are on the brink of collapse, #UN agency warns
The U.N. migration agency warned on Tuesday that humanitarian efforts in Sudan’s war-torn North Darfur region might come to a complete halt unless immediate funding and safe delivery of relief supplies are ensured.
“Despite the rising need, humanitarian operations are now on the brink of collapse,” the International Organization for Migration (#IOM) said in a statement. It added: “Warehouses are nearly empty, aid convoys face significant insecurity, and access restrictions continue to prevent the delivery of sufficient aid.”

An Eritrean asylum seeker has been sentenced to 12 months in prison in the United Kingdom after assaulting three police officers at a migrant accommodation facility in Gloucester.
Ismail Ahmedsalih, 34, pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting three police constables and affray during an incident at the Ibis Hotel in Gloucester on 27 August 2025. The hotel, used to house asylum seekers under a government program, was the scene of a serious disturbance involving Ahmedsalih.
Police said three officers were assaulted while attempting to arrest him during the incident, though none required hospital treatment.
