LAGOS’ FLOATING SLUM
To demolish or to re-develop? That is the question facing Lagos as it grapples with its slum-on-water, Makoko. While some see it as a hazard and an eyesore on their way into the city’s modern business centre, there is a large and bustling community for whom it is home. African Stream’s Poloum David pays a visit.

KAGAME HITS BBC WHERE IT HURTS
Throwback to when Paul Kagame🥊the BBC. Rwanda’s president tore into the broadcaster’s superiority complex and its attempts to belittle Rwandans, exposing how agenda-driven the balance-touting corporation really is. The BBC's habit of making allegations it can’t substantiate was again on display during a recent interview with Twitter CEO Elon Musk, who left his interviewer red-faced by challenging him to stump up examples of a claimed rise in hate speech on the platform.

WE ARE FOR A UNITED AFRICA
Amid calls to deport the millions of Nigerians and Zambians working illegally in South Africa, EFF leader Julius Malema said he’d NEVER abandon fellow Africans - even if it cost him electorally, or his job. It’s sure to be an issue in the 2024 elections, as it was in the 2021 municipal ballot when this powerful speech was made. Watch Malema make his case and tell us what you think: does being African come first?

Fierce fighting has ripped through Khartoum, shattering hopes for a peaceful transition to civilian rule in Sudan. A power struggle between military leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, Mohamed Dagalo aka Hemeti, is at the centre of the violence, with forces loyal to the generals vying for control. However, it's also a proxy war for wider competing interests, as Egypt backs Burhan and the UAE backs Hemeti.
Meanwhile, is it a coincidence the USA stands to benefit from the upheaval? Plans for a Russian naval base in Sudan are now in jeopardy. But, whatever happens, it’s the Sudanese people that are losing the most with hundreds already killed.

10 WARS, MILLIONS KILLED, 1 NOBEL
Americans disagree on many things but not on foreign policy. Here are Republicans and Democrats together, all smiles in a photo. From the country that brought you, '500,000 dead Iraqi children was worth it' (Madeleine Albright) here's an image with 4 presidents in frame. During their time in office, they launched a total of 10 wars, which left millions dead. Obama, for his part, received the Nobel Peace Prize before he could really show what he could do, launching a war in Libya that left tens of thousands dead and led to Black Africans being sold in open slave markets.

STOP SUDAN SLAUGHTER
A Sudanese woman vents her rage at the two sides fighting it out in her country, destroying the lives of innocent civilians in their wake.
She says the generals at the centre of the conflict are motivated by greed and power, and not the needs of the people. Before the latest outbreak of violence, Sudan was already struggling with high inflation and unemployment. Nearly 300 civilians have been killed and over 2,600 injured since fighting erupted at the weekend between the army and paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

FRANCE DEPORTS AFRICANS WITHIN AFRICA
Unbelievable, but France is dictating where Africans can go - in Africa. And causing a tonne of human misery to boot. The French government is poised to begin mass deportations from the island of Mayotte - claimed by both France and the rest of the Comoros archipelago. It’s removing migrants who came from the surrounding islands and demolishing the slums they live in. 500 extra French police have already been deployed to get the job done. And they say colonialism ended!
