SHEIKH JARRAH STILL FIGHTS BACK
In occupied East Jerusalem, the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood has been a hot spot of colonisation attempts through eviction claims that Palestinians have fought. In May 2021, Sheikh Jarrah was one of the critical escalation points in one of Israel's previous major attacks on the Gaza Strip, located miles away from the neighbourhood. But, in 2023, Sheikh Jarrah still holds on to its indigenous Palestinian roots.
In this video, a Palestinian tour guide gave a tour to Norwegian tourists on 19 June when an Israeli coloniser verbally attacked him.
It's a reminder that while Israeli bombs dropping on children in Gaza get the most attention, the process of Palestinian ethnic cleansing has been a wide-ranging and painful process for the past 75 years.

It's also worth remembering that Theodor Herzl, the founder of the modern Zionism movement, initially suggested Uganda become a Jewish state.
So, had history taken a different turn, the European settler on this video would be saying, "All this belongs to Israel" while standing on African land, much like European settlers have spoken in northern and southern Rhodesia, Namibia, and South Africa!

AFROCENTRICITY AND PAN AFRICANISM
In order to effectively embody the spirit of Pan-Africanism, there must be a philosophical base upon which ideas, interests, common culture and ideologies come together.
That is what Professor Molefi Asante said in this 19 October 1996 clip in a debate that took place with Pan-Africanist Kwame Ture at the University of Cincinnati (USA). He defended Afrocentricity because of the need for Africans to fully comprehend and centre their experiences within their own historical, cultural and sociological contexts. That is what he said is required for Pan-Africanism to be realized. The founder of the African-American Studies Program at Temple University in the United States reiterated that the spirit of Pan-Africanism is tied to a deep identity in Afrocentrism and a united African people reading from the same page.
Meanwhile, others in our community have rejected Afrocentricity as narrowminded.

Many African nations cut diplomatic and other ties with Israel after the 1973 Ramadan War (Yom Kippur War). But many factors - from the desire for Israeli agricultural and security technologies to various US-brokered deals (Camp David, Oslo, Abraham Accords) aimed at peace and normalisation - have seen most of Africa back on diplomatic talking terms with Tel Aviv. Even South Africa, which strongly sympathises with the Palestinian cause and regards Israeli actions as comparable to the apartheid regime’s, has an embassy in Tel Aviv, though Pretoria downgraded relations last year - and currently has no ambassador. Still keeping their backs turned are Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Somalia, and Tunisia. Could Israel’s current indiscriminate war against Gaza change the overall picture? Let us know in the comments.

French President Emmanuel Macron does not believe Africans can think for themselves or act in their own best interests. He claimed on 1 September 2022 that the mass revolt against France unfolding throughout Africa is a product of "anti-French propaganda" created by Russia, China and Turkey. Here's a funny little idea: The rising movement against French intervention actually comes from a long history of devastation, poverty, violence, and warfare linked to the French colonial and neo-colonial systems. Maybe Macron should consider all of that.
