Despite being bigger than most other land masses, Africa is depicted way smaller than it really is on many maps. Put it another way, white countries get beefed up and Black countries get shrunk. They colonised Egypt at the end of the 19th century. The chief aim was to gain control of the Suez Canal and secure trade routes to India. But being able to exploit Egypt’s vast resources and manpower was an added bonus.

Although their presence met with deep resentment and resistance, they occupied the country for 7 decades. The last British troops were pulled out in 1956.
