RACIST WORLD MAP

Despite being bigger than most other land masses, Africa is depicted way smaller than it really is on many maps. Put it another way, white countries get beefed up and Black countries get shrunk. Think we’re lying? Listen to activist Jane Elliot’s explanation on the Oprah Winfrey show. According to her, maps are definitely racist. However, others argue the Mercator map was designed for mariners in the 16th century, and has no sinister undertones. Although that begs the question, why do we still use it?

After coming out on top in the Suez Crisis, Egyptian President, Gamal Abdel Nasser, was empowered. He responded to insults made by UK state broadcaster, the BBC, with a tirade of his own, taking aim at the British Queen. To him, the events of 1956 symbolised a new era in world politics. They colonised Egypt at the end of the 19th century. The chief aim was to gain control of the Suez Canal and secure trade routes to India. But being able to exploit Egypt’s vast resources and manpower was an added bonus.

Although their presence met with deep resentment and resistance, they occupied the country for 7 decades. The last British troops were pulled out in 1956.

Tribal discrimination is the last thing you need when fleeing a war zone. Nigeria organised evacuation buses for its citizens trapped in Sudan - but not everyone’s being allowed on. A viral video shows university students from Nigeria’s Igbo community alleging they were left behind, to make room on the buses for non-Igbo Nigerians. In it, they appeal for help directly to the Igbo owner of an airline that’s put on flights from Egypt to Nigeria for citizens evacuated from Sudan.

SUDAN VS UKRAINE

The Sudan conflict once again highlights a racial approach to humanitarian efforts. Compared to how Ukrainian refugees were treated at the onset of their conflict, there's a cold indifference to Sudan. Europe offers jobs and cash to those from Ukraine and gave $100-billion in aid to Kiev in just a year. In stark contrast, no similar schemes have been offered to the Sudanese. Meanwhile, cases are rife of stranded Africans unable to access their passports locked in Western embassies in Sudan.
