CAMEROON DAY UNITY CALLS
Cameroonians from different walks of life joined together to call for peace and unity as the country marked its 51st National Day. In recent years, the West African nation has been rocked by deadly violence between government forces and militants from the country’s anglophone region. The rebels want to secede from the majority-francophone country due to what they say is the marginalization of their region by the central government. Since violence broke out in 2016, some 6,000 people have been killed and nearly 800,000 displaced. The conflict is hurting the country’s economy, affecting important sectors like cocoa production. Cameroon is the fifth-largest cocoa producer in the world.

SUDAN: 7-DAY CEASEFIRE - CAN IT HOLD?
Can Sudan’s generals refrain from fighting for 7 days? That’s what they’ve signed up for - in a ceasefire deal brokered by the US and Saudi Arabia, who say they have a ‘monitoring mechanism’ in place. The pause in the fighting its essential to allow humanitarian aid in, with thousands of injured citizens and almost a million displaced. Every previous ceasefire has failed, but even if this one holds for the agreed time, will it lead to a more lasting peace?

FOOTBALL STAR ABUSED AGAIN!
Another sickening case of racist abuse in top-flight football. Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. targeted by monkey chants in his side's 1-0 defeat to Valencia. It was so bad his manager declared Spain’s LaLiga has a racism problem. Although not according to its president, Javier Tebas, who lashed out at the player. What??? Meanwhile, police have arrested three men in connection with the alleged incident, but can racism in football ever be defeated?

CHINA FAZES US IN AFRICA
China has turned Africa into a battleground. That’s according to former commander of US Africa Command, Stephen Townsend.
He claims Beijing is challenging American interests by building much-needed infrastructure across the continent, like roads, ports and airports. Although the four-star general failed to explain exactly why that's a threat. Obviously, US concerns have little to do with the interests of Africans.

Finland is ranked the happiest country in the world - and a good conscience goes a long way towards that. It’s just returned sacred stones stolen from Namibia’s Ovambo people in the late 19th century. Could Helsinki’s example inspire a 21st century trend? We very much hope so.

Britain and Somaliland
Britain has long supported the breakaway de facto state of Somaliland and funded its security forces. However, after pro-Somalia demonstrations broke out, some of those are now accused of atrocities by Human Rights Watch. We look at why the UK is so keen to back the separatist region, where renewed violence has displaced hundreds of thousands.

We fixed it for you, Bloomberg.
What your opinion piece fails to give adequate weight to is crippling debt, political assassinations, resource theft, the ongoing impact of slavery and colonisation, and neo-colonialism. THAT’S what America (and co.) has ‘done’ for the Global South before and since WWII. Thanks.

CLING TO DEAD
AFRICAN PRINCE
We’ve long known the British monarchy is a vampire feeding on African blood - but it seems it wants our lifeless corpses as well! Ethiopia has once again requested that Buckingham Palace hand back the body of its ‘stolen’ boy prince, Alemayehu - who was taken to England over 150 years ago after the British empire defeated his father (who took his own life rather than surrender). He hated his exile and the ‘education’ Queen Victoria tried to ram down his throat, and he died miserable and lonely, aged only 18. The Palace’s justification for not returning him is a joke (watch to find out what) - let’s hope Alemayehu‘s ghost haunts its inhabitants till they return his remains to Africa, where they belong.

UNITE OR PERISH: THE BATTLE FOR AFRICA
For a moment in the ‘60s, it looked like our continent might really unify into a single Pan-African state. This was largely thanks to inspirational leaders like Kwame Nkrumah, who implemented the ideal as government policy. But there was a rival vision for Africa that ultimately came to dominate. This is the story of the Casablanca Group versus the Monrovia Group. The story is not over yet - we continue the struggle for a totally unified Africa!

UKRAINE FM: AFRICA
MUST CONDEMN RUSSIA
Ukraine’s foreign minister has called on African leaders to abandon their neutrality over the Ukraine conflict.
During his tour of the continent, Dmytro Kuleba said failing to condemn Russia amounted to supporting it.
It’s a view shared by his Western backers and has seen the US berate South Africa for failing to take sides.
But why should nations be forced to take a stand on hostilities
thousands of miles away? Particularly when African views weren’t considered important on conflicts closer to home, like NATO’s bombing of Libya.

That’s despite the ICC issuing an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin over alleged war crimes in Ukraine.

That was the ridiculous question a journalist posed to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Watch the visibly stunned Reds manager send a very clear message that NOTHING can justify racist behaviour.
Monkey chants rang around Valencia’s stadium during their 1-0 win over Real.
The game was stopped for ten minutes after Vinicius complained he was the target of racial slurs.
It’s happened to the Brazilian multiple times this season. Should he consider leaving LaLiga?
