Two postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the lab of Dr. Jennifer Hunter at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Waterloo, Canada. Our research is focused on understanding retinal fluorescence as a biomarker of cell function in healthy and diseased eyes. As we continue to advance this technology, we are looking for enthusiastic and accomplished people to join our team.
The lab is focused on translational research through developing new imaging technologies and applying them to answer scientific questions in preclinical animal models and in people. Research will involve adaptive optics retinal imaging in human subjects and/or in rodents. Our focus is on understanding normal retinal function and the changes that occur during retinal degeneration. In people, we have a particular focus on aging and Stargardt disease. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to utilise an existing adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscopes (AOSLO) and to participate in the construction and maintenance of a new AOSLO. A current area of interest is the application of our recently deployed adaptive optics fluorescence lifetime imaging ophthalmoscopy to image the retinal pigment epithelium layer in people (https://doi.org/10.1364/BOE.451628) or in combination with two-photon excited fluorescence ophthalmoscopy in pre-clinical models.

Successful candidates will have a PhD in a related field including, but not limited to, Vision Science, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or Optics. Experience with retinal imaging, retinal disease or vision science is highly desired, but not required. Initial appointment is for 1 year and may be renewed up to 4 years based on performance.

Applicants should submit by email a statement of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references to Jennifer Hunter (jjhunter@uwaterloo.ca). Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until both positions are filled.
