Two postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the lab of Dr. Jennifer Hunter at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Waterloo, Canada. Our research is focused on understanding retinal fluorescence as a biomarker of cell function in healthy and diseased eyes. As we continue to advance this technology, we are looking for enthusiastic and accomplished people to join our team.
The lab is focused on translational research through developing new imaging technologies and applying them to answer scientific questions in preclinical animal models and in people. Research will involve adaptive optics retinal imaging in human subjects and/or in rodents. Our focus is on understanding normal retinal function and the changes that occur during retinal degeneration. In people, we have a particular focus on aging and Stargardt disease. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to utilise an existing adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscopes (AOSLO) and to participate in the construction and maintenance of a new AOSLO. A current area of interest is the application of our recently deployed adaptive optics fluorescence lifetime imaging ophthalmoscopy to image the retinal pigment epithelium layer in people (https://doi.org/10.1364/BOE.451628) or in combination with two-photon excited fluorescence ophthalmoscopy in pre-clinical models.

Successful candidates will have a PhD in a related field including, but not limited to, Vision Science, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or Optics. Experience with retinal imaging, retinal disease or vision science is highly desired, but not required. Initial appointment is for 1 year and may be renewed up to 4 years based on performance.

Applicants should submit by email a statement of interest, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references to Jennifer Hunter (jjhunter@uwaterloo.ca). Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until both positions are filled.

The following positions are open in the department of Complex Systems at the Institute of Computer Science, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague, Czech Republic.
Applications for all positions will be reviewed on a rolling basis with a first cut-off point on 30. 9. 2022.

Postdoctoral / Junior Scientist position in Multimodal Neuroimaging Machine Learning, Prague, Czech Republic
A Postdoc or Junior Scientist position is available to join the Complex Networks and Brain Dynamics group for the project: “Predicting functional outcome in schizophrenia from multimodal neuroimaging and clinical data“ funded by the Czech Health Research Council. The project involves the development of tools to predict the functional outcome of schizophrenia from multimodal neuroimaging, clinical and cognitive measurements taken early after disease onset. To overcome limitations due to high dimensionality of data, we combine robust machine-learning tools, data-driven feature selection and theory-based brain network priors. The project is carried out in collaboration with the National Institute of Mental Health, using its unique large rich imaging, cognitive and biochemical data of early stage schizophrenia patients. Research Fellow / Postdoc positions in Complex Networks and Brain Dynamics, Prague, Czech Republic
We are looking for new team members to join the Complex Networks and Brain Dynamics group to work on its interdisciplinary projects. The group is part of the Department of Complex Systems, Institute of Computer Science of the Czech Academy of Sciences - based in Prague, Czech Republic, https://www.cs.cas.cz/. We focus on the development and application of methods of analysis and modelling of real-world complex networked systems, with particular interest in the structure and dynamics of human brain function. Our main research areas are neuroimaging data analysis (fMRI & EEG, iEEG, anatomical and diffusion MRI), brain dynamics modelling, causality and information flow inference, nonlinearity and nonstationarity, graph theory, machine learning and multivariate statistics; with applications in neuroscience, climate research, economics and general communication networks.
