السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

Our dear brothers and sisters,

The Day of ʿArafah (9th of Dhul Ḥijjah) is the greatest day of the year.

It is a day when:
– Sins are forgiven
– Souls are freed from the Hellfire
– Duʿās are readily accepted

This day is also significant because it marks when Allah (subḥānahū wa taʿālā) perfected our religion and completed His favour upon us.

ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) narrated:

Once a Jew said to me: ‘O leader of the believers! There is a verse in your (Holy) Book which you all recite; had it been revealed to us Jews, we would have taken that day as a day of celebration.’”

ʿUmar (raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu) asked him:

“Which verse?”

The Jew replied:

"Today I have perfected your religion for you, completed My blessing upon you, and chosen Islam as your religion."
(Surah al-Mā’idah, 5:3)

ʿUmar raḍiy Allāhu ʿanhu said:

No doubt, we know the day and the place when this verse was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ. It was Friday and the Prophet ﷺ was standing at ʿArafah.”
(Bukhārī)

➡️Summary of the Virtues of the Day of ʿArafah:

1. Fasting:
Fasting on the Day of ʿArafah wipes away sins of the previous and upcoming year.
(Hadith – Muslim)
Even if one has not fasted the first eight days of Dhul Ḥijjah, they should not miss this fast.

2. Freedom from Hellfire:
It is the day when Allah frees more people from Hellfire than on any other day.
He boasts to the angels about His servants seeking forgiveness.
(Hadith – Muslim)

3. For All Believers:

This mercy is not exclusive to pilgrims. Non-pilgrims also receive this opportunity for forgiveness, making the following day (ʿEid) a true celebration.

4. Hope in Allah’s Mercy:

Sufyān al-Thawrī (raḥimahullāh) said:

The worst person on ʿArafah is the one who believes Allah won’t forgive him.”

5. Acts of Generosity:

Ḥakīm b. Ḥizām (raḥimahullāh) freed 100 slaves on the Day of ʿArafah, inspiring others to beg Allah for their own freedom from the Hellfire.

💠Giving up one’s right for the sake of Allaah!

🎓Ibn Seereen رحمه الله said:
❝I heard Shuraih swearing by Allaah that a person does not abandon a thing for the sake of Allaah (except that) he will find (something better than) what he had lost.❞ Ibn Seereen said: ❝I had never seen Shuraih taking an oath except upon (sure) knowledge.❞

Beware of betraying a believer;

Whoever betrayed a believer has betrayed Allāh and His Messenger (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)

And when you love a brother for the sake of Allah,

then be kind and generous with him.

And beware of conflicts, controversies and arguments (with brothers),

Lest you become a habitually sinful deceiver.

And be patient with everyone,

because patience leads to righteousness,

and righteousness leads to Jannah.

[ Sufyān al-Thawrî (rahimahullâh), Abū Nu’aym (rahimahullâh) in his Hilayat al-Awliyaa

Hasan al-Basri رحمه الله stated:

"The roots of evil are three and its branches are six.

As for the three roots of evil:
1. Jealousy (envy)
2. Greed
3. Love of the life of this world

As for the six branches of evil:
1. The love of always sleeping.
2. The love of always having one's belly full.
3. The love of always resting.
4. The love of leadership.
5. The love of being praised by people.
6. The love of bragging."

On the Day of ʿArafah

Lā ilāha illā-Allāh, waḥdahū lā sharīka lah, lahu-l-mulk, wa lahu-l-ḥamd, wa Huwa ʿalā kulli shay’in Qadīr.

There is no god worthy of worship but Allah. He is Alone and He has no partner whatsoever. To Him Alone belong all sovereignty and all praise. He is over all things All-Powerful.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The best duʿā’ is the duʿā’ of the day of ʿArafah. The best of what I and the Prophets before me have said is [the above].”

How sound is the hadeeth “Seek seventy excuses for your brother”?

I do not know of any basis for it. What is prescribed for the believer is to respect his brother if he apologises to him and accept his excuse if possible, and to think positively of him whenever possible, in hopes that hearts will be free from resentment and that people will be brought together and will co-operate in doing good. It was narrated by Umar رضي الله عنه who said: “Do not think negatively of a word uttered by your brother, when you can find a good interpretation for it.”

If someone slanders you, you either get their good deeds, or they get your bad deeds.

Abū Hurayrah narrated that Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said: "Whoever has wronged his brother with regard to his honour or any other matter, should seek his forgiveness today, before there are no longer any dinars, or dirham, and if he has righteous deeds, they will be taken (and given to the person they slandered), and if he has no good deeds, some of the bad deeds of the person will be taken and added to his burden."

A Day in Which the Servants Are Freed From the Fire in Abundance

On the authority of ‘Aisha رضي الله عنها who said that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said:
"There is no day in which Allāh sets free more slaves from the Hell-Fire than [He does] on the Day of ‘Arafah."

Abu Hurairah رضى الله عَنْهُ narrated: Allāh's Messenger ﷺ said:

{الْحُجَّاجُ وَالْعُمَّارُ وَفْدُ اللَّهِ إِنْ دَعَوْهُ أَجَابَهُمْ وَإِنِ اسْتَغْفَرُوهُ غَفَرَ لَهُمْ.}

The Day of ‘Arafah + Friday
(Countries where today is the 9th of Dhul Hijjah)

The Prophet ﷺ said:
_“Fasting on the day of ‘Arafah expiates the sins of the previous year and the coming year.”_
—[Sahih Muslim]

_Ibn al qayyim رحمه الله said when asked about 'Arafah and friday:_

• When ‘Arafah falls on a Friday, its two greatest days meet:
Jumu’ah (the best day of the week) + ‘Arafah (best day of the year).

• Both have moments when duas are most accepted — especially before Maghrib.

• It is the day when Allaah perfected our religion:
_”This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you...”_
—[Al-Ma'idah 5:3]
Revealed on a Friday, on the Day of ‘Arafah, during the Prophet’s only Hajj.

• It is the day when Allaah draws close to His slaves in ‘Arafah and boasts of them before the angels.

Fast. Repent. Dedicate the whole day to du'as

❝When the people of Jannah will reunite, they will remember all the times they spoke about Jannah in this world. They’ll look back and laugh, at how short life was, and then smile, because beautiful is their final abode.

The people of paradise will have all that they desire. One step into Jannah and they will remember no pain. They will say they never suffered, they will say they never cried.

A dip in Jannah.

Oh how much we long for that moment. The moment where we reunite, we hug our loved ones once again. We forget about all the pain, and thank Allāh for all the tests!

How strange does it seem, that these tests which weigh a ton on our chest today will one day elevate us. Elevate us so high, that we will thank Allāh. We will thank Him for testing us, for loving us and for giving us more than anyone could imagine.

A place of eternity, vast, beautiful, peaceful.

Everything one can desire.

Be patient, oh beautiful slaves of Allāh, for our Lord is more Merciful than a mother is to her child.❞ [Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (رحمه الله) in “Al-Fawa’īd” (pg. 119).]

Shaykh ‘Abdul-Kareem al-Khuḍayr, [may Allāh preserve him], said:

“The more a person conceals their deeds, the closer they come to sincerity; for secrecy and avoiding the gaze of others nurture the soul's pursuit of true devotion. It is for this reason that voluntary acts of worship have been prescribed to be performed in the privacy of one’s home.”

Asking Allah Ta'Ala 📝💎

Ḥakam ibn Mūsā said, ‘I woke up one morning and my wife complained about not having any flour or bread. I left knowing that I would be unable to get anything and while walking down the street I said, “O Allāh! You know that I know that You know that I have no flour or bread or money, so grant them to us!” A man met me and asked, “Do you wish bread or flour?” I replied, “Either.” Then I walked around during the day trying to find means to acquire what I needed but was unable. When I returned home my family had prepared a veritable feast of bread and meat.

I asked, “Where did you get this?” They replied, “From the person you sent!” I remained silent.’

Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said:

“A protection from the Shaytān is restraining the glance, avoiding excessive speech and food, and not mixing with the people excessively. The Shaytān gains mastery over the son of Adam through these four doors.

The wandering glance transports the image to the heart and distracts the mind with it. Thus, fitnah starts with a curious glance.”
