Using such phrases as GOOD/BAD LUCK, LUCKILY/FORTUNATELY or UNLUCKILY/UNFORTUNATELY is HARAM

Q 1: I want to know the ruling on the following frequently said phrases:
1. Bad luck and good luck.
2. All praise be to Allah, besides Whom no other can be praised for something bad.
3. I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of whoever has evil.
(Part No. 26; Page No. 367)
A: First: It is Haram (prohibited) to use the expressions: (luckily/fortunately) and (unluckily/unfortunately), because they are attributing the occurrence of good or adverse events to luck (fortune), which has no control over anything and is not the cause for good or ill fate. Allah (Exalted be He) says: Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment. If the sayer of this thinks that such fortunes act by themselves, without the intervention of Allah, this is major Shirk (associating others with Allah in His Divinity or worship). However, if they think that everything is subject to Allah’s Decree Alone and they have only verbally said it, then it falls under polytheistic words, which conflicts with the obligation to have perfect Tawhid (belief in the Oneness of Allah). The basic ruling concerning this is the Hadith reported by Muslim in his "Sahih (Book of Authentic Hadith)", that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “There is no ‘Adwa (contagion, disease transmission naturally by itself not by the Decree of Allah), nor is there Hamah (pre-Islamic superstitious belief that the bones of a dead person turn into an owl), nor is there Naw’ (stars bringing rain), nor is there Safar (the month of Safar was believed to bring bad luck during pre-Islamic time).” Also, it was authentically reported in the two Sahih (authentic) Books of Hadith (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) on the authority of Zayd ibn Khalid Al-Juhany (may Allah be pleased with him), who said, “The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) led us in the Subh (Dawn) Prayer at Al-Hudaybiyyah after a rainfall during the night. When the Prophet (peace be upon him) had finished praying, he faced the people and said, ‘Do you know what your Lord has said?’ They replied, ‘Allah and His Messenger know best.’ He said, ‘Some of My slaves have entered the morning as Mu’min (believers) in Me and (others) as Kafirs (disbelievers). Those who said, ‘We had rain by the Bounty of Allah and His Mercy,’ are believers in Me and disbelievers in the stars; and those who said, ‘We had rain by such-and-such a star,’ are disbelievers in Me and believers in the stars.’”
Second: Saying: "All praise be to Allah, besides Whom no other can be praised for something bad," is correct. There is nothing wrong in it.
(Part No. 26; Page No. 368)
Third: Saying: "I seek refuge with Allah from the evil of whoever has evil,'' is correct, as Isti‘adhah (seeking refuge with Allah from Satan) stated in the Qur’an and the Sunnah (whatever is reported from the Prophet) carry that meaning, such as the Saying of Allah (Exalted be He): Say: "I seek refuge with (Allâh), the Lord of the daybreak, "From the evil of what He has created, It was authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) Used to seek refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), saying, “I seek refuge for you two with Allah’s Perfect Words from every devil and poisonous pest, and from every evil (envious) eye.” It was also authentically reported that Jibril (Gabriel, peace be upon him) performed Ruqyah (reciting Qur’an and saying supplications over the sick seeking healing) for the Prophet (peace be upon him) when he was ill. He said, “In the name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you, from everything that is harming you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye, may Allah heal you, in the name of Allah I perform Ruqyah for you.” It was authentically reported that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to say in Khutbat-ul-Hajah (prelude to a sermon or speech):

Do not interpret the Qur'an and Hadīth based on your own intellect
Ibn Taymiyyah [رحمه الله] said:
“And whomsoever explains the Qur'an and Hadīth, and interprets them with an interpretation other than the famous explanations of the Companions and their successors, has lied upon Allāh. He is a wretched deviate with regards to his Qur'anic verses. He misrepresents his speech away from its correct places. This opens the doors to hercsy and deviation, and the falsehood of this is known by necessity in Islam.”

And don’t become careless, and neither say: “In shaa Allaah, my eemaan will become stronger” (without doing anything about it). Instead from right now — from the moment you feel that you are ill — you must implement the cure."

RULING ON CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS, MOTHER'S DAY & FATHER'S DAY.
This is a Munkar (that which is unacceptable or disapproved of by Islamic law and Muslims of sound intellect) to celebrate one's birthday, or the birthday of one's mother, daughter, or son.
This is an innovation in religion, as it is like the practice of the Christians and the Jews. These practices including mother's day, father's day, uncle's day, one's birthday, or birthdays of daughters, and sons are all Bid`ahs that have no legal foundation or declaration in the Shari`ah (Islamic law) to support.
They bear a likeness to the enemies of Allah and it is impermissible to do them. Rather, it is a must to close this door and beware of these Bid`ahs.

Shaykh Aḥmad Bazmūl states:
'This is how important this is, this knowledge is dīn, something that he will be raised with on the day of judgment...the Muslim must look and take his dīn from Ahl al-Sunnah, al-Salafīyyūn, known for knowledge, being upright and having taqwá'
'Imām Mālik said it is not enough for someone to be a worshipper, and to be known for Zuhd, outward expression of worship, that you take from them...but they did not take from them because that was not their affair (knowledge), they were worshippers that's all. In this time we see someone who has a lihyah (beard), his thobe above his ankles and he is then the muftī of his area, this is a mistake!'
'It is forbidden for the one who is asked and doesn't know, to answer. Likewise it is ḥarām for the one to ask one who doesn't know...he has to ask the scholar...if you had a medical situation, would we go to a mechanic? And if we had a problem with our car, would we go to a farmer...no we would go to each individual who is a specialist in their field...so when it comes to the issue of dīn, we must go to the scholars, it is not right to ask (just) anybody or do what everyone else is doing.'
Abū Dardāʾ went to the masjid one day (in the time of the tabiʿīn) and he observed the people praying differently than according to the Sunnah, so he came home angry and his wife (Ummu al-Dardāʾ) asked him what has made you angry? He said, 'By Allāh I don't see anything from the time of the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) except praying together (meaning that they had abandoned much of the Sunnah). This is his statement whilst he was close to the time of the Messenger (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). So what about now? 1400 years after that, are general masses upon Sunnah? Are the general masses upon knowledge? No! Rather we should follow the scholars!'

The great Taabi’ee Muhammad ibn Sireen (D.110AH) said: “Indeed this knowledge is your religion, so look to whom you take your religion from.” Be careful who you take your deen from!

Imaam Muslim collected it in the introduction to his Saheeh. Shaykh Aḥmad ibn ʿUmar Bazmūl Hafidahullah in his lecture based upon the famous statement of Muḥammad Ibn Serīn: "This knowledge is a matter of dīn, so be careful who you take your dīn from." Says, Due to the weakness in the Ummah and lack of comprehension of the pure Islamic methodology, it is common in our time that an ignorant person is taken as a person of knowledge, and that an ignorant person assumes the role and responsibility of a speaker and caller to Islām. Despite the mountain of statements from the Salaf, the likes of al-Lālakāʿī, al-Barabahārī, Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, Ibn Sirīn and so on imploring the Muslims to stick to the Scholars, the people of sunnah (the jamaʿāh) and to stay away from doubtful matters.

A Disliked Qadr

What a person should do if he has been afflicted with Qadr which he dislikes
Shamsuddeen Muhammad bin Abee Bakr Ibn Qayyim aj-Jawzeeyah (d.751 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said:
‘If a disliked Qadr crosses a person, then he has six considerations:
The first- consideration is of Tawheed, and that Allaah is the One who destined it for him, willed it for him, created him. Whatever Allaah wants occurs and whatever Allaah does not want does not occur.
The second- consideration is of justice, and that it will occur with Allaah’s command. It is just in fulfilling Allaah’s justice.
The third- consideration is of mercy, and that Allah’s mercy in what has been destined is generally from Allaah’s Anger and recompense, His mercy is present but hidden and not apparent.
The fourth- the consideration of wisdom, that the Allaah’s Wisdom -Subhanahu- necessitated this destiny. Allaah did not destine this in vain or command it for no reason.
The fifth- consideration is of Praise, that all complete praise is for Allaah -Subhanahu- for this destined Qadr from whichever way you look at it.
The sixth- the consideration of servitude of worship, and that a person is purely a slave of Allaah from every point of view. The regulations of his Master apply to him and are carried out due to him being his master’s possession and His slave. So Allaah disposes him under His destined rulings just as Allaah disposes him under rulings of the Deen, therefore, the slave of Allaah has to conform and proceed with these rulings.
