The prophet ‏صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, even if he is an unbeliever, for there is no screen between it and Allah.”

[Musnad Ahmad, 12140]
On the authority of Abu Abbas Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:

One day I was behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) [riding on the same mount] and he said,

"O young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]:

Be mindful of Allah and Allah will protect you.

Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him in front of you.

If you ask, then ask Allah [alone];

and if you seek help, then seek help from Allah [alone].

And know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, they would not benefit you except with what Allah had already prescribed for you.

And if they were to gather together to harm you with anything, they would not harm you except with what Allah had already prescribed against you.

The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.”

It was related by at-Tirmidhi, who said it was a good and sound hadeeth. Another narration, other than that of Tirmidhi, reads:

Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you.

Recognize and acknowledge Allah in times of ease and prosperity, and He will remember you in times of adversity.

And know that what has passed you by [and you have failed to attain] was not going to befall you,

and what has befallen you was not going to pass you by.

And know that
victory comes with patience,
relief with affliction,
and hardship with ease."

This Is Tremendous Du’a – Seeking Refuge With Allaah From Evil People Around You

The transliteration of which is:

“Allahumma innee a’udhu bika min Jaaris Suu, wa min zawjin tashayyabanee qablal masheeb, wa min waladin yakoonu alaiyya rabban, wa min maalin yakoonu alaiyya ‘adhaaban, wa min khaleelin maakirin, ‘ainuhu taraanee, wa qalbuhu yar’aanee, in yaraa hasanatan dafanahaa, wa in yaraa sayyi’a’tan adhaa’ahaa“

And Here Is Its Translation:

Abu Hurayrah (Radee’Allaahu anhu) said that from his (Messenger of Allaah, sallAllaahu alayhee wa aalehee wasalam) supplications were:
“Oh Allaah, I seek refuge with you
From an evil neighbour; and
From a wife who causes me to grow old before old age; and
From a son who will become a master over me; and
From wealth which will become a punishment for me; and
From a cunning friend whose gaze is upon me & whose heart is plotting & planning against me, such that if he sees Something good, he buries it & if he sees something bad he spreads it.”

Stand Firm Against Evil Thoughts...

Stand firm against evil thoughts, for if you fail to do so, they will become ideas, if you do not, they will become desires, so fight against them. If you do not, they will become a form of determination and intention, if you do not resist, they will become actions, and if you do not follow them up with their opposite, they will become habits that will be hard to quit.

Narrated Shaddad bin 'Aus:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is: 'Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa anta. Khalaqtani wa ana `Abduka, wa ana 'ala 'ahdika wa Wa'dika mastata'tu abu'u Laka bi ni 'matika wa abu'u Laka bidhanbi; faghfirli fa'innahu la yaghfiru-dh-dhunuba ill a ant a. A'uidhu bika min sharri ma sana'tu.'
If somebody recites this invocation during the night, and if he should die then, he will go to Paradise (or he will be from the people of Paradise). And if he recites it in the morning, and if he should die on the same day, he will have the same fate."

Staying silent when a brother/sister's honour is being attacked? Its not my problem! I'm not getting involved! What is the legislated action for the believer in this situation?

If he happens to attend a gathering and his Muslim brother is being mentioned with sin or being degraded, then he defends him as he would defend his own honour, because his brother’s honour is like his own.
Dr. Ṣāliḥ ibn Fawzān al-Fawzān Hafidahullah

Abū a-Dardāʾ (رضى الله عنه) narrated that the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Whoever defends his brother’s honor in his absence, Allāh will protect his face from the Fire of Hell on the Day of Resurrection.”

[Related by Al-Tirmidhī who graded it to be Ḥasan. Aḥmad has something similar from the Ḥadīth of Asmāʾ ibnt Yazīd.]

Explanation:

“Whoever defends his brother’s honor in his absence...”

Meaning: In the state of his brother’s absence. If he happens to attend a gathering and his Muslim brother is being mentioned with sin or being degraded, then he defends him as he would defend his own honor, because his brother’s honor is like his own. Therefore he defends his brother’s honor, by censuring the backbiters and preventing them from persisting as it relates to the honor of his Muslim brother. He does not resign and stay quiet, leaving them to backbite. This is the Muslim’s obligation, and it is not permitted for him to stay quiet and keep the peace, for he will be sinning due to that and he will be a sharer and partner to them regarding the sin, (that is) because he saw an evil (taking place) and he did not change it, whilst having the ability to do so. How much more then, if he participated with them in the act, and he began backbiting with them? This is even worse. As for if he defends his brother’s honor and he prevents them from backbiting his brother, then Allāh, the Majestic and Exalted, will reward him by protecting his face from the Fire on the Day of Resurrection. This is a tremendous favor, because on the Day of Resurrection, the Fire will be brought in to view. He, the Most High, said:

َوُبِّرَزت ٱۡلَجِحيُم لَِمنَ يَرى

“And Hell-fire shall be made apparent in full view for (every) one who sees.” (79:36)

And He, the Majestic and Exalted, said:

َوَرَءا ٱۡلُمۡجِرُموَن ٱلَّناَر َفظُّنٓوْاأََّنُہم ُّمَواِقُعوَها

“And the Mujrimūn (criminals, polytheists, sinners) shall see the Fire and apprehend that
they have to fall therein.” (18:53)

It will be hot and blazing, and nothing will protect against it except for righteous actions. A person will look to his right side, and he will not see anything except what he has done, and he will look to his left side and he will not see anything except what he has done, and he will look in front of himself and he will not see anything except the Fire; therefore, it is upon him to prepare for this situation. And from preparing for this situation is to refrain from (encroaching upon) the honor of the Muslim and defending them.

So this (ḥadīth) contains the exhortation toward defending the honor of the Muslims which is being violated in gatherings or in writings. If you were to see someone writing about a Muslim, and the ʿUlamāʾ’ specifically, and the Muslim Ruler, then it is upon you to defend them, as this is from defending the honor of the Muslims.

*For 20 Years The Messenger Of Allaah Did Not Increase Upon 11 Rakah*

Shaykh Albaani [رحمه الله] said:

❝For 20 years the Messenger of Allaah did not increase in Ramadan nor outside Ramadan upon 11 Rakah. If we do not take this text [Hadeeth of Aeysha] as an evidence which prevents the Muslim from increasing upon this number of Rakah, then what Sunnah can we prevent the people from increasing upon, nothing at all whatsoever.

Then what is a Bida? The Bida which you understand from the statement of the Prophet Alayhi As Salam: 'Every Bida is misguidance and every misguidance is in the Hell fire.' Then what is termed as a Bida? Is it not increasing upon what the Messenger brought of obedience and worship.❞

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty branches (i.e. parts). And Haya (This term "Haya" covers a large number of concepts which are to be taken together; amongst them are self respect, modesty, bashfulness, and scruple, etc.) is a part of faith."

Question:

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله

When Ramadan approaches,  many sisters text/email me with a general request for forgiveness for anything they might have done willingly or unwillingly to hurt me or that I disliked of them. Is this act based in the Qur’an/Sunnah and is it specific for Ramadan that one may want to clear himself of all bad actions towards other people  before the month starts?

Zaynab El-Kateb:

و عليكم السلام و رحمة الله و بركاته

The action which is according to Sunnah is that if someone talked badly about a person, and this person knew about it, then he should apologize to him and ask his forgiveness, (but if the person did not know then Shaikh Ibn Al-Uthaymin said that in this case do not confess the bad things you said about him and make dua to Allah for him), also if he harmed any person in anyway, he needs to ask this person to forgive him. We should not delay repentance waiting for Ramadan we should repent and ask forgiveness from Allah and from those whom we did wrong to them as soon as we realize the wrong we did.

As for approaching the month of Ramadan we make a general Istighfar and repent from any sin.
