How difficult is it to attain khushoo in salah?

#SignsOfTheHour

The Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

“The very first thing to be raised from this Ummah is Khushoo (awe, fear of Allaah) until there is not a single person in it with khushoo.”

[Saheeh al-Jaami` (2569) and graded as “Saheeh” by Shaikh al-Albaanee]

“Khushoo’ in prayer happens when a person empties his heart for it (prayer), and focuses on it to the exlusion of all else, and prefers it to everything else. Only then does he find comfort and joy in it, as the Prophet (sw) said: ‘… and my joy has been made in salaah.’” ( Ahmad, 3/128 Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3124).

Allaah has mentioned al-khaashi’eena wa’l-khaashi’aat (men and women who are humble (before their Lord)), and described this quality as one of the qualities of those who are chosen. He tells us that He has prepared for them forgiveness and a great reward (i.e., Paradise). [See al-Ahzaab 33:35].
Shaykh al-Islam [Ibn Taymiyah] said:

We do not mean by Ahl al-Hadeeth only those who study it, write it down or narrate it, rather we mean anyone who takes care to memorize it, understand it and follow it, both inwardly and outwardly. The same may be said of “Ahl al-Qur’aan” (the people of the Qur’aan).
The basic quality of these people is their love of the Qur’aan and hadeeth, referring to them and their meanings, and acting upon what they learn.

Majmoo’ al-Fataawa, 4/95
*Importance of Fasting:*

Narrated Abu Huraira : The Prophet said, "(Allah said), 'Every good deed of Adam's son is for him except fasting; it is for Me. and I shall reward (the fasting person) for it.' Verily, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the smell of musk."
[Bukhari :: Book 7 :: Volume 72 :: Hadith 811]

*Fast on Mondays and Thursdays:*

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Deeds are shown (to Allaah) on Mondays and Thursdays, and I like my deeds to be shown when I am fasting.” Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 747; class...ed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1041

It was narrated from Abu Qataadah al-Ansaari that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays. He said: “On that day I was born, and on it the Revelation came to me.” Narrated by Muslim, 1162.

It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was keen to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 745; al-Nasaa’i, 2361; Ibn Maajah, 1739; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1044.
Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri (Radiya Allaahu 'Anhu) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

❝No-one can be given a better and more abundant gift than patience.❞

Every person starts his/her day as a vendor of his/her soul…

The Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) said:

كل الناس يغدو فبائع نفسه فمعتقها أو موبقها

‘’Every person starts his day as a vendor of his soul, either freeing it (i.e. from sin) or bringing about its ruin (i.e. through sin).” [1]

AbuBakr Ibn Ayyaash (rahimahullaah) said: A man once said to me when I was a young man: ‘’Save yourself in this worldly life as much as you can by (seeking) after the provision of the afterlife; for indeed the prisoner of the afterlife (i.e. the one condemned in the fire) will never be unfastened. ‘’ [2]

Mistakes & Advising

The senior scholar Rabee bin Hadi al-Mudkhali -hafidhullaah- said:

‘If your brother makes a mistake, advise him with gentleness and present him proofs and evidences through which Allaah will benefit him.

As for sitting waiting in ambush for someone to make a mistake and to rouse up hatred here and there that so-and-so did such-and-such. These are the ways of the Shayateen not the way of the people of the truth.’

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade from wasting wealth. He (ﷺ) told Sa'd (radiyAllahu'anhu):

"It is better for you to leave behind your
heirs wealthy, rather than leaving them poor begging others."

[Bukhari 5/363 and Muslim #1/628.]
Umm Salamah رضي الله عنها said, “Never did the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم leave my house without looking towards heaven, supplicating:

الَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَضِلَّ، أَوْ أُضَلَّ، أَوْ أَزِلَّ، أَوْ أُزَلَّ، أَوْ أَظْلِمَ، أَوْ أُظْلَمَ، أَوْ أَجْهَلَ، أَوْ يُجْهَلَ عَلَيَّ

Allaahumma ‘innee ‘a’oodhu bika ‘an ‘adhilla, ‘aw ‘udhalla, ‘aw ‘azilla, ‘aw ‘uzalla, ‘aw ‘adhlima, ‘aw ‘udhlama, ‘aw ‘ajhala ‘aw yujhala ‘alayya

O Allah, I seek refuge in You lest I misguide others, or I am misguided by others, lest I cause others to err or I am caused to err, lest I abuse others or be abused, and lest I behave foolishly or meet with the foolishness of others.

(Abu Dawud)
Ibn Qudamah said:

“If a man were to throw a stone into his house for every sin he commits, his house would be filled within a very short period of time.

But he doesn’t pay much attention to remembering his sins…

🌟 *Get your priorities straight* 🌟

🚫 *Even though Shirk & Bidah is spreading...*
...people remain silent, saying: _❝you don't know what is in the heart.❞_

🚫 *Even though wanton display (Tabarruj by women and girls) is spreading...*
...people remain silent, saying: _❝you don't know what is in the heart.❞_

🚫 *Even though vices (intoxicants/drugs/fornication etc) are spreading...*
...people remain silent, saying: _❝you don't know what is in the heart.❞_

🔥 But when the price of commodities increases...

🔥Warning against reciting the Qur'aan at "Supersonic" speed🚫

Narrated Uqbah Ibn Aamir that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

❝People will come forth from my Ummah who will drink (recite) the Qur’aan like (the way) they drink milk.❞

In another narration it is ❝water❞ instead of ❝milk❞

📚 [Tabaraanee in Mujam al-Kabeer (821) and by al-Faryaabee in Fadhaa’il al-Qur’aan (109) and graded as “Hasan” by Shaikh al-Albaanee in al-Saheehah (1886) and Saheeh al-Jaami (3653)]

📑 Meaning: ❝They will glide through the Qur’aan with their tongues without contemplating over its meaning nor implementing its commandments. They will glide through it like how milk or water slides down the throat of its drinker.❞
📚 [Faidh al-Qadeer (4/118)]
If crying in the prayer is due to the fear of Allah ﷻ or a person remembers some of the promises and admonitions that have been mentioned in the Noble Qurʾan, then this does not invalidate the prayer.

However, if the crying is a result of remembering some misfortune that has befallen or something similar, then this invalidates the prayer.

This is because something external has occurred in the prayer.

It is obligatory upon him to prevent himself from this type of crying so that he is not subjected to invalidating his prayer.

It has been legislated upon him not to be concerned with anything that is not connected to the prayer.

He should not think about other matters since thinking about matters that are not connected to the prayer greatly decrease the reward of the prayer.

Sh. Ibn ‘Uthaimīn رحمه الله :

"It is only right that a person be optimistic, feeling happy about the good he sees [in things]; and he should not look at the life lying ahead of him in this world as dark and dismal so that he becomes weary [of life] and loses hope."

Soft and gentle ones:

On the authority of Abu ‘Unbaah al-Khulaani in a narration ascribed to the Prophet [ﷺ]:

❝Indeed Allaah has vessels from the people of the earth. The vessels of your Lord are the hearts of the righteous ones. The most beloved of them to Him are the soft and gentle ones.❞
