💎 There is NO Benefit in Being Sad
Ibnul-Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah said: Al-Huzn (الحزن) sadness has not come within the Qur'ān except being prohibited or negated.
As for it being a prohibition it is like His, Exalted be He, statement:
*And do not be weak nor be sad* (Āli 'Imrān 3:139)
And His statement:
*And do not grieve over them* (An-Nahl 16:111)
And his statement:
*Do not be sad, for indeed Allāh is with us.* (At-Tawbah 9:40)
As for the negation it is like His statement:
*No sadness will be upon them nor will they grieve* (Al-Baqarah 2:38)
The subtle reasoning behind this is that sadness is something which should not be traversed upon and there is no benefit in it for the heart. The most beloved thing to Shaytān is that he causes the servant to be sad in order that he may cut him off in his journey and cause him to stop in his path.

Some Muslims recite the Qur’ān in “Qur’ān competitions” to see who see who has the most melodious and moving recital; or at funerals – many earning a comfortable living by such recitals, winning trophies and rights of “commercial recordings”. This is seen by many Muslim scholars as being distasteful because:
1. The Qur’ān should not be used a tool to advance one’s personal worldly and financial ambitions.
2. The Qur’ān should be recited on those occasions wherein the Prophet and Companions recited it, and it is not proven by Hadeeth that he recited it at funerals. So to recite the Quran over the deceased is an innovated practice and forbidden.
It is however, often narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite portions of the Qur’ān before performing a marriage, and during the Friday Sermon, and whilst delivering advice and admonition to his Companions.

The Quran: its Revelation and Compilation Part 2 (Islam 1.6)

The Flavor of the Heart
Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah (rahimahullah):
“If you would like to draw a conclusion of what is contained in someone’s Heart then use as a proof the movements of his Tongue! For surely, he will show you what is contained in his heart regardless of whether he wants to or not.”
Yahya ibn Mu'adh:
The hearts are like pots. They boil with that which they contain and their tongues are their ladles [i.e. scooping spoons].
So look at a man when he speaks. His tongue will scoop out for you that which is contained in his heart, whether it is Sweet or Bitter, Fresh or Salty and other than that. And the flavor of his heart will become clear to you from that which his tongue scoops out.
This means that just as you can taste the flavor of foods being cooked with your tongue and you realize the true flavor of them, Similarly you can taste what is in a man’s heart by way of his Tongue,
[in the same manner that you can taste what is in the pot with your tongue].

We live in times where the halaal is uglified while the haraam is beautified:
- Pornography is called "adult entertainment"
- prostitutes are called "working girls"
- brothels are called "gentlemen's clubs"
- friends of zinaa are called friends with "benefits"
- husband's girlfriend on the side is called a "mistress"
- music is called "rhymes" or "harmonies"
- heroin is called "brown sugar"
- cocaine is called "candy"
- alcohol is called "strong drink"
- steroids is called "juice"
- ribaa is called "interest"
- homosexuals are called "gay"
- and now the LGBT flag is the colours of the rainbow.
Islamically, changing the name of something does not change its reality. Labeling the forbidden with a nice name is from the trademarks of shaytaan in order to belittle the gravity of its sin, don't be fooled.

"A man once came to Imām Ahlus-Sunnah, Ahmad bin Hanbal (Rahimahullah) and asked him, "O Imām, what is your opinion on poetry?"
He replied, “Which poetry is this?” to which the man responded by reciting the following couplets:
إذا ما قال لي ربي اما استحييت تعصيني
If my Lord asks me, “Have you shyness in disobeying me?
You conceal your sins from my creation – and with sins you come to me.”
Imām Ahmad took these lines and repeated them over and over again, and wept profusely to such an extent that one his students said that he almost perished due to him crying so much.
“If my Lord asks me…”
If my Lord asks me, “Have you shyness in disobeying me?
You conceal your sins from my creation – and with sins you come to me.”
So how will I answer? O woe to me – and who shall protect me?
I keep averting my soul with thoughts of hope – from time to time.
And I forget what is to come after death – and what is to come after I am shrouded.
As if I am guaranteed life (eternally) – and that death will not come to me.
And when the severe stupor of death overtakes me – who will protect me?
I looked at the faces; is there not from amongst them who will ransom me?
I will be asked regarding what I have prepared in my life to save me (on the Day of Judgement).
Then how will I answer – after I have neglected my religion.
Woe to me! Did I not hear the Speech of Allāh inviting me?
Did I not hear what came in (the chapters of) Qāf and Yā-Sīn?
Did I not hear about the Day of Gathering, the Day of Assemble and the Day of Judgement?
Did I not hear the crier of death inviting me, calling me?
So O my Lord, a slave (turning to you) I have repented – so who then shall shelter me?
Except a Lord extensive in forgiveness – to the truth He will guide me.
I have come to you (in repentance) – so have mercy on me, and make heavy my scales (with good deeds).
And lighten my account – You are the best of who will bring me to account.

The [first] type are those who call to misguidance. They are to be boycotted and punished with a severe punishment and prevented from giving da’wah.
The other type are the common people who have been deceived. We hold them to be innovators but we call them to Allaah with wisdom and good admonition.
We do not boycott them, but we do not sit with them either. Rather, we call them to Allaah in the mosques and in the market places. We call them through tapes and books.
We present to them the truth, we clarify the falsehood and warn them against it, so that Allaah can guide those who He wants good for and as for those who Allaah does not want good for, then they will not benefit from any of that.
