*Ten Points for the First Ten days of Dhul-Hijjah*

📍1. The first ten days are actually nine days with the addition of the day of Eid. It is called the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, but only nine of it is for fasting as the tenth day is the beginning of Eid. It is impermissible to fast on the day of Eid, this is a consensus amongst the people of knowledge.

📍2. It is permissible to fast the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah with the last day being the day of Arafah for those not doing Hajj. The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم said in a hadith narrated by ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما (in at-Tirimidhi): “There are not any days that good deeds are more beloved to Allah than those done in these ten days.”

📍3. In these days, it is recommended that there is a lot of remembrance of Allah سبحان و تعالى - this is for all of the ten days.

📍4. In these days, it is recommended that one makes takbir of Allah (saying Allahu akbar) - this is for all of the ten days.

📍5. In these days, it is recommended to read the Qur’an as much as possible and give charity - this is for all of the ten days.

📍6. The ninth day is the day of Arafah. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم said in an authentic narration: “Verily on the day of Arafah there is expiation of sins for the year before and the year after” (narrated by Abi Qatada رضي الله عنه, reported in Sahih Muslim and At-Tirmidhi). So therefore it is a great day, so it is recommended to fast that day for those not doing Hajj. Fasting is only permissible for the first nine days as the tenth day is the day of Eid.

📍7. Allah تعالى said: “That they may witness things that are of benefit to them (i.e. reward of Hajj in the Hereafter, and also some worldly gain from trade), and mention the name of Allah on appointed days (i.e. 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah), over the beast of cattle that He has provided for them (for sacrifice). (Surah al-Hajj: 28). Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما said: “The appointed days are the days of Arafah (9th), an-Nahr (10th) and the days of Tashreeq (11th, 12th and 13th ).

📍8. Whoever wishes to slaughter in these days it is not allowed to cut or remove any hair from his body or his nails, but this does not apply to his family, only the head of the family who is doing the slaughtering.

📍9. The ruling regards to slaughtering:

a. An individual who slaughters from his own wealth on behalf of himself and his family - It is not permissible for this individual to shave any hair from his body, remove any part of his skin or cut his nails.

b. An individual who slaughters from his own wealth for others e.g. he wishes to slaughter for his father or his mother - He too must not cut his hair, take from his skin or cut his nails.

c. Anybody who wishes to slaughter with someone else's wealth, for somebody else .e.g. He has been entrusted by someone else to slaughter cattle for him - This individual is allowed to cut his hair, nails and skin etc.

📍10. Eid Al-Adha is four days in total: the tenth (the day of Eid prayer) and the days of tashreeq (the eleventh, twelve and thirteenth days of Dhul-Hijjah). It is impermissible to fast in these days for those not performing the Hajj. The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم said: “The days of Tashreeq are days for eating, drinking and remembering Allah عز و جل” (narrated by Abi al-Maleeh رضي الله عنه, reported in Sahih Al-Muslim). Allah سبحان و تعالى said: "And remember Allah during the appointed Days." (Surah Al-Baqarah: 203).

TREAT PEOPLE AS YOU WOULD LIKE THEM TO TREAT YOU!

Al-Hasan said,

'Allāh revealed four things to Ādam ('alayhis-salām), and He said, "These things are the basis of all things for you and your children. One of which is for Me, another one is for you, one is between Me and you, and the other is between you and the people." As for the things that is for Me; it is that you must worship Me (alone) and not associate anything in worship with Me. The thing that is for you is that I will reward you for your deeds when you are most in need of the reward. The thing that is between Me and you is that you should supplicate to Me and I will answer your supplications. As for the thing that is between you and the people; it is that you should treat them as you would like them to treat you.'"

THERE IS NOTHING LIKE UNTO HIM

It takes precedence for the one who has not dedicated himself to seeking knowledge, is for him to not delve into differences of opinion, rather he stops at having sound comprehensive belief, that Allāh is One with no partner,

لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِۦ شَىْءٌ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ {١١}

"There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing."

[al-Shūrā (42): 11]

And that His Messenger is truthful in what he came with and to believe in what is in the Qur'ān without investigation, and to dedicate his life to taqwā and acts of obedience. For whenever he delves into differences of opinion and that which he cannot understand, he will be destroyed.

“The saying of “lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh” by some people at the time of an adversity is not from the Sunnah. Rather, one should say “innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn.” For the hawqalah (i.e. saying lā hawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh) is said when a person has the intention to do something [and is seeking the help of Allah].”
‎Imām ash-Shāfi'ī rahimahullāh:

The dignity of a man is in three things:

‌‎- Hiding poverty until people consider from your integrity that you are rich.

‌‎- Hiding anger until people consider that you are pleased.

‌‎- Hiding hardship until people consider that you are prosperous.‎

The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) used to say this duaa in his Salah between the Takbir and the recitation of Qur'an (Opening duaa)

"Oh Allah! Set me apart from my sins (faults) as the East and West are set apart from each other. Oh Allah! Clean me from sins as a white garment is cleaned of dirt (after thorough washing). Oh Allah! Wash off my sins with water, snow and hail."

There is No Supplication that a Person Can Say that is Better Than …”

The Prophet ﷺ said, “There is no supplication that a person can say that is better than:

‘O Allaah! I ask You for al-Mu’aafaah* in this world and the Hereafter.’” *(‘Mu’aafaah is for Allaah to suffice you against needing the people, and sufficing the people of having need of you. See Tuhfatul-Ahwadhi, 3512.)

What The Heart Acquires From The Qur’aan

The Allaama Ibn Uthaymeen [رحمه الله] said:

❝Every time a person’s Eeman strengthens with the Qur’aan, then Allaah gives Yaqeen [certainty] due to the evidences of the Qur’aan which cannot be found in any other book.

This is why I encourage you and my self to have complete concern for the Qur’aan, reciting it, reflecting upon it and acting upon it.

Experience this for yourself, return to the Qur’aan in these matters and see what your heart acquires from Eemaan, delight of the heart, light of the heart and light on the face.❞

[Sharh Al-Kafi Ash-Shafi, (4/166) | Translated By Abbas Abu Yahya Miraath al-Anbiyya]
*HADITH - THE ANT AND A PROPHET*

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

*Once there was a prophet who was resting under a tree when an ant bit him, so he ordered that his luggage be taken away and the ant’s dwelling burned with fire. Allah revealed to him: Was one ant not enough?*

_Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 3141, Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi_

In another narration, the Prophet said:

*فَأَوْحَى اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ أَفِي أَنْ قَرَصَتْكَ نَمْلَةٌ أَهْلَكْتَ أُمَّةً مِنْ الْأُمَمِ تُسَبِّحُ*

*Allah revealed to him: A single ant has bitten you, yet you have destroyed a nation that glorifies Allah?*

_Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2241, Grade: Sahih_
Don’t you see that gold does not become pure unless it is first subjected to fire which melts it and removes its impurity? So trialling must occur. The evidence for that is reality and the revealed religion.

As for reality, then look at the trials that happened to the Prophet! There were tremendous trials in the beginning of the da’wah and at the end. What happened to him in Makkah? What happened to him in Tā’if? What happened to him in al Madīnah? Wasn’t his face split open and weren’t his cuspid teeth broken? The answer is of course that happened. So trialling must happen.

As for what is found in that regard in the revelation, then Allah (تبارك وتعالى) said:

﴿ وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِيٍّ عَدُوًّا مِّنَ الْمُجْرِمِينَ ﴾

“And thus have We made for every prophet an enemy from amongst the criminals.” [al-Furqān: 31]

Do you think that your enemy will sleep without trying to finish you off? Never. However, read what comes after this sentence:

﴿ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ هَادِيًا وَنَصِيرًا ﴾

“But sufficient is your Lord as a guide and a helper.” [al-Furqān: 31]

Beware of being hasty.

How many calamities, difficulties and problems have afflicted those who are hasty! The days and nights are going and leaving behind the traces and consequences of hastiness!

How much corruption and destruction and unpraiseworthy consequence have occurred because of partisanship and the following of desires? We ask Allaah to keep us safe from that.

The Number of Major Sins

That which is correct - and Allāh knows best - is that the major sins are not fixed or limited to a specific number.

Ibn ‘Abbās (رضي الله عنه) was asked:

“How many major sins are there? Are they seven?”

He replied:

“They are closer to seven hundred than seven. However, there is no major sin after seeking forgiveness and it is not considered a minor sin if persistently committed.”*

Imām al-Dhahabī (رحمه الله) said:

“He [i.e. Ibn ‘Abbās] spoke the truth, as this Hadīth does not restrict the number of major sins [to this number].”**

Jealousy

Abū Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) said:

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

“Two things do not gather in the heart of the servant: faith and jealousy.”*

Anas (رضي الله عنه) said:

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

“None of you truly believe until you love for your brother what you love for yourself.”**

Imam Hasan al-Basri rahimahullaah said:

I swear by the One (i.e. Allaah) besides Whom none has the right to be worshipped, the Sunnah is the middle path between the extremist and the negligent one; therefore be patient upon it (i.e. the Sunnah) and may Allaah have mercy upon you. Indeed Ahlus Sunnah were the fewest people in the past and they will be the fewest in the future- those who neither agreed with the people of transgression and corruption in their transgression and corruption nor with the people of Bidah in their Bidah, [rather] they were patient upon the Sunnah until they met their Lord; therefore –by the will of Allaah- be like that.

[Sunan Ad-Darimi, 235]
