Always Ask For Goodness

Prophet Muḥammad Ṣallallāhu-ʿAlaihi Wa Sallam said:

لا تدعوا على أنفسكم إلا بخير فإن الملائكة يؤمنون على ما تقولون

“Do not supplicate for yourself anything but GOOD (Khayr) for indeed the angels say ‘Āmeen’ to whatever you say (in Duʿā).”

"When Yunus (عليه السلام) was swallowed by the whale. In its stomach, he focused on the Tawheed of Allah and it got him through.

When you are drowning in problems, focus on Tawheed of Allah and this will get you through too."

— Ustadh Abu Ibraheem Hussnayn

Winters Ibadah

As the clocks go back and we enter the very short days and long nights, take benefit of the following:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: ❝Fasting in the winter is the easy prize.❞
[Ahmad (4/335) , Graded sahih by Shykh Albani]

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (‎رحمه الله) commented:

“And the meaning of it being an easy prize is that it is a prize obtained without any battle or effort or hardship. So, the owner of this prize has been given it as a favor without any effort on his part."

He also mentioned, “Winter is the best season for the believer because Allah strengthens his practice in it by making worship easy for him.

This is because in winter, the believer can fast during the day with ease without suffering from hunger and thirst. The days are short and cold, and he therefore doesn’t feel the hardship of fasting.

As for praying at night in the winter due to its long nights, one can have his share of sleep and then get up to pray afterwards and recite all that he usually recites of the Qur’an while he has had enough sleep.

So, he can combine between the sleep that he needs and the usual amount of recitation of the Qur’an that he completes in a day. So, he fulfills the interests of both his religion and the comfort of his body."
[Lata’if al-Ma’arif, (p. 267)]

When it was winter time, ‘Ubayd bin ‘Umayr would say: “O people of the Qur’an! Your nights are now long for you to recite in. So, recite! Your days are now short for you to fast in. So, fast! Night prayer in the winter equals fasting during the day in the summer.”
[Collected by Ibn Abi Shaibah in his Musannaf, (7/172)] 💙

‘Umar bin al-Khattab said: “Winter is the prize of the worshippers.”
[Ahmad reported in ‘az-Zuhd’ (p. 118)] 💎

Shaykh Sālih Al-Fawzān

"The Muslim is patient upon the hardships and remains firm upon his religion. The relief is near, he doesn’t give up hope and he doesn’t despair"

[Sharh Kitāb Al-Fitan wal-Hawādith Pg.294]
Luqmān was an Ethiopian Slave who was a carpenter.

His master said to him:
"Slaughter this sheep for us," so he slaughtered it.

His master said: "Bring the best two pieces from it," so he brought out the tongue and the heart.

Then time passed, as much as Allāh willed, and his master said: "Slaughter this sheep for us," so he slaughtered it.

His master said: "Bring the worst two morsels from it," so he brought out the tongue and the heart.

His master said to him: "I told you to bring out the best two pieces, and you brought these, then I told you bring out the worst two pieces, and you brought these!"

Luqmān said: "There is nothing better than these if they are good, and there is nothing worse than these if they are bad."

[Tafsir ibn Kathir 12/31]
How can you attach your heart to anyone other than Allāh?! If Allāh desires to touch you with some harm, then no one can remove it except Him. And if Allāh wants to give you good, then no one can repel it except Him. So how can you attach your heart to other than Him?! How can you turn to other than Allāh the Exalted?!

Ibn Abbās رضي الله عنه reported to have said :

"Whoever loves for the sake of Allāh, and hates for the sake of Allāh, and whoever seals a friendship for His sake, or declares an enmity for His sake, will receive, because of this, the protection of Allāh.

No one may taste true faith except by this, even if his prayers and fasts are many. People have come to build their relationships around the concerns of the world, but it will not benefit them in any way."

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali رحمه الله | Jami' al-Ulum wal Hikam | p.30

Allah عز وجل is the First without beginning and the Last without end. Allah the Most High says:

﴿ هُوَ الْأَوَّلُ وَالْآخِرُ وَالظَّاهِرُ وَالْبَاطِنُ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ ﴾

“He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High (nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (noting is nearer than Him).” [Qur’an 57: 3]

(These are) names with opposite (meanings): The First is the opposite of the Last and the Most High is the opposite of the Most Near. The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم explained this verse in his saying:

أنت الأول فليس قبلك شيء، وأنت الآخر فليس بعدك شيء، وأنت الظاهر فليس فوقك شيء، وأنت الباطن فليس دونك شيء.

“You are the First and nothing is before You; You are the Last and nothing is after You; You are the Most High and nothing is above You; and You are the Most Near and nothing is Nearer than You.”*
