About the Position:
The Institute of Microbiology at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) is looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join a project focused on fungal pathogens 🦠 and their RNA biology during infection. Fungal pathogens are major threats to public health and agriculture 🌍, and understanding their infection strategies is crucial for the development of novel fungicides 💡. In this project, you will explore the role of RNA-binding proteins in the pathogenic development of the plant pathogenic fungus Ustilago maydis 🌾.
You will combine RNA biochemistry with microbial genetics and live cell observation, using innovative RNA proximity labeling approaches to explore molecular mechanisms at the trannoscriptome-wide level 📊.
Main Tasks:
• Investigate the role of RNA-binding proteins in pathogenic development 🔍
• Use RNA biochemistry, genetics, and microscopy to uncover molecular mechanisms 🔬
• Participate in teaching microbiological courses 📚

Your Profile:
• Master’s degree in biology/biochemistry or related life sciences 🎓

Are you passionate about energy-efficient cooling systems? We have an exciting PhD opportunity focused on the theoretical and numerical analysis of data center unit cooling systems, with a special focus on direct-to-chip pumped two-phase flow!
📌 Qualifications:
✅ Engineering background with strong knowledge of heat transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics (Master’s degree preferred but not required)
✅ Experience in CFD modeling
✅ Strong written & verbal communication skills
✅ Commitment to scientific integrity & research ethics
