emotional regulation, socialization, anger

"furthermore i truly believe you should eat a meal before making any big choices, confrontations, vents, etc. i promise 100% of the time you will feel better and more balanced with food in your stomach. you should never do anything that will have consequences on anything less than a full stomach.

orc logic
she's right btw"

"my dad who wants the brussels sprouts to be healthy

me who wants the brussels sprouts to fuck like hell

food fun facts for dad types!!!

·adding butter or cheese or salt or whatever to your veggies so that you like them doesnt change the nutritional content you get from said veggies

·additional calories eaten dont negate the healthy benefits of food.
and, stay with me here, low calorie foods are not more morally pure than high calorie foods

·if making a food more palatable by adding butter (or whatever) is the make-or-break for someone to actually eat the vegetable, then the brussel sprouts with butter are FUCKING HEALTHIER for you than the brusel sprouts you dont eat. a salad with ranch dressing is healthier for you than the dry greens you dont eat. a sandwitch with cheese and mayo is more healthy than the plain sandwich you dont eat. the strawberry with whipped cream is more healthy than the strawberry you dont eat."

"waiting for people to fuck up so that you can cancel them, gatekeeping, communities self-policing to the point of self-destruction, debating each other's validity, communities infighting over terminology, fighting over the Best way to exist, trying to define what a Bad Community Member is/does, vilifying those people

besties i think we fucked up and internalized the surveillance state or the omni-present judgement of god or purity culture or perhaps just maybe all 3

kill the cop inside your head"

"emotional regulation requires energy

when you're physically tired, emotional regulation is physiologically harder to achieve

so if you've used all your physical spoons and you start crying because you dropped a pen, remember its because your cells literally dont have enough ATP to coordinate the neurological processes that control your emotions. give yourself grace and rest and probably a snack"

unscheduled post:

request for feedback on trannoscription, from those who make use of them. does it make a real difference to type "don't" instead of "dont" for screen readers? would it help to use «» instead of ""? anything else that is easier to deal with as a sender than as a receiver?

additionally, if there is a strong interest in using more formatting (E.G., embolden the first letter of every sentence), the possibility may be explored

this post has no expiration date and anyone can reply at any point, but please try to keep all the discussion to actual, real usecases, and dont chip in to add theories and fantasies born from maybes. emboldening letters only helps the reader if the reader is reading the post through the trannoscription and not the image.

feel free to provide illustrative links (especially for things like the aforementioned text formatting)

additionally, the majority of the post history of this channel has been transcribed now, and maybe about a quarter of the artists have been credited; but there are still posts that evaded the sieve

if anyone wants to contribute, the two main ways currently are:
-to reply #pending_trannoscription directly to the post, in its comments
-to locate the original artists in graphical posts, and reply to the post with their names, preferably but not necessarily with links

the latter is an arduous and demanding task to do for admin alone, especially with admin's technological setup, and any amount of help would go a long way :)

politics, society, fascism, free speech

"public service announcement: the right to free speech means the government cant arrest you for what you say

it doesnt mean that anyone else has to listen to your bullshit, or host you while you say it

the 1st amendment doesnt shield you from criticism or consequences

if you're yelled at, boycotted, have your show canceled, or get get banned from an internet community, your free speech rights arent being violated

its just that the people listening think you're an asshole

and they're showing you the door"

"on periods: lets put this shit to bed right now: women dont lose their minds when they have period-related irritability. it doesnt lower their ability to reason; it lowers their patience and, hence, tolerance for bullshit. if an issue comes up a lot during "that time of the month", that doesnt mean she only cares about it once a month; it means she's bothered by it all the time and lacks the capacity, once a month, to shove it down and bury it beneath six gulps of willful silence"

"instead of telling disabled kids "you can do anything you want if you put your mind to it", i think we should tell them, "the things you are capable of doing matter"

a person cant live on an increasingly strained hope that someday they'll be good enough, especially if all you ever do is tell them who they are and what they do now is worthless"

loneliness, society, socialization

"{1} it occurs to me that the reason our culture thinks people cant live without sex is that our culture thinks "living without sex" means living without any physical affection at all

{2} people really hear "living without sex" and think it means "no kisses, no hugs from friends and family, no cuddling, no hand-holding or looped arms," huh?

{3} probably because we are increasingly seeing those things specifically as precursors to sex, instead of inherently fulfilling actions on their own terms

{1} that specifically. there's an attitude that's views all physical affection as somehow connected to sex. hence, a social norm that you cant have those things in a nonsexual relationship"

"a man saw a snake being burned to death and decided to take it out of the fire. when he did, the snake bit him causing excruciating pain. the man dropped the snake, and the reptile fell right back into the fire.

so, the man grabbed a metal pole, took the snake out of the fire and saved its life

someone who was watching approached the man and said: "that snake bit you. why are you still trying to save it?" the man replied: "the nature of the snake is to bite, but thats not gonna change my nature, which is to help". do not change your nature simply because someone harms you. do not lose your good heart, only learn to take precautions"

food, medical

"the flip side of 'cleanse diets dont do anything' is that if you tried a cleanse diet and you did experience a notable reduction in fatigue, joint pain, and general blarginess, you need to talk to an allergy specialist, because there's nearly a 100% chance that means you have an undiagnosed allergy to some component of your customary diet

this is an excellent point and i'd imagine there's a lot of quack diets that continue circulating and getting press based on this exact principle

absolutely - a great many diets of the "stop eating everything except there three foods" variety are 100% trading on the fact that they're practically guaranteed to generate some positive testimonials by virtue of coincidentally cutting somebody's undiagnosed food allergy out of their diet

cleanse diets are a fad, elimination diets are a diagnostic tool, and they often overlap in the foods you're told to stop eating. go see and allergist!!!"
