During the development of the uninhabited Northwest Territories of the United States in the 19th century settlers constantly had to face many difficulties, one of which was the lack of housing. For some, the solution was the enormous stumps left by the felling of centuries-old trees.
By hollowing out or burning out the interior of the stump and making a roof, the settlers obtained reliable temporary housing in which they could even spend the winter. The McAllister family was one of the first to occupy a stump house in 1847, and since then they have been much more common.

The Cyrus cylinder is a clay cylinder on which Cyrus the Great commanded to inscribe in cuneiform a list of his victories and gracious deeds, as well as a list of his ancestors. The artifact was discovered during the excavations of Babylon in 1879 and came into the British Museum.
The cylinder became famous after the last Shah of Iran in the 1960s proclaimed the text inscribed on it as the first ever declaration of human rights: Cyrus spoke in favor of the abolition of slavery and religious freedom. The Shah promised to build his policy in accordance with the precepts of the founder of Persian statehood.
