Ja'far b. [Muhammad b.] Abee 'Uthmaan at-Tayaalisee (d. 282H) rahimahullaah said:

“I heard Yahya b. Ma'een when it was said to him: 'Indeed Hussain al-Karaabeesee speaks ill of Ahmad b. Hanbal.' So he said: 'And who is Hussain al-Karaabeesee? May Allaah curse him; only those who are equals speak about the people (i.e. the scholars), sunken and debased (Yantilu) is Hussain [al-Karaabeesee] and raised is Ahmad.'”

The Evils Of Interest Based Loans & Mortgages

Question:
Is it allowed for me to take out a loan (Mortgage) from a bank that deals with interest to buy a house? Benefit us may Allaah reward you with good.

Answer:
Even if you were in dire need of eating a piece of bread to save yourself from death still don't borrow anything from the bank whatsoever, let alone buying a house or a car. When one is in an adverse situation forced by circumstance (severe hunger) Allaah has made lawful for you al-Maitah (dead animals), and the flesh of swine, and that which has been killed by a violent blow or by a headlong fall; yet ar-Ribaa (interest) has not been allowed for you, interest is very dangerous, very dangerous. So don't deal with interest and be patient; since Allaah the Perfect and the Most High mentions:

And whosoever fears Allaah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine. And whosoever puts his trust in Allaah, then He will suffice him. [Surah At-Talaaq: 2-3].

So dealing with interest is a grave sin, a dangerous matter and the one who makes it allowable has disbelieved. Therefore, if you are in need of a house then be patient until Allaah provides it for you, seek refuge in Allaah and utilise the necessary means until Allaah paves the way for you to obtain a house. Either that or you die being free from waging war against Allaah. Since the Muraabi (the one who deals with interest) is warring with Allaah - and Allaah’s refuge is sought - as Allaah the Perfect and the Most High mentions:

And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allaah and His Messenger but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums), and you shall not be dealt with unjustly (by receiving less than your capital sums). [Surah al-Baqarah: 279].

He (Allaah) declares war upon the people of ar-Ribaa (interest) and "the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) cursed the usurper of interest, the one who pays it, the one who records it and the two witnesses to it." *

What do you want after the curse?!

Will the house benefit you when you are in front of the Hellfire?! So the believer should fear Allaah and should have patience upon his destitution and his need; for indeed Allaah the Perfect and the Most High mentions:

"And certainly, We shall test you with something of fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits, but give glad tidings to the patient ones." [Surah al-Baqarah: 155].

Be patient and Allaah will give you this mighty reward instead of exposing yourself to His curse, His anger, His wrath and His punishment. Bear this severity in the world for it is nothing in comparison to the anger of Allaah and His punishment.

We ask Allaah that He protects us by His grace and favour from everything that incurs His anger and wrath. Indeed our Lord is All-Hearing of our supplications. And may the blessings of Allaah and peace be upon our prophet Muhammad, his family and upon his companions.

* Reported by Muslim in his Saheeh (11/36 no.1598 - Nawawee) from the Hadith of Jaabir radiallaahu 'anhu.

Ibn Taymiyyah's
Explanation Of ‘Sayyid al-
Istighfaar’ (The Best Form Of Seeking
Forgiveness)
The Sayyid al-Istighfaar (the best/superior form of seeking forgiveness)

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي ،

O Allaah, you are my Lord,

لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ ،

there is none worthy of worship except You,

خَلَقْتَنِي

You have created me,

وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ ،

and I am Your slave,

وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ

and I am upon Your covenant

وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ،

and Your binding promise as much as I am able,

أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْتُ ،

I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have committed,

أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَىَّ

I acknowledge Your Favours upon me

وَأَبُوءُ لَكَ بِذَنْبِي ،

and I acknowledge my sins,

فَاغْفِرْ لِي ،

so forgive me,

فَإِنَّهُ لاَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ

for indeed there is none that forgives sins besides You.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “And whoever says this during the day Mooqin-an (having firm conviction/faith) in it and then dies on that day before the onset of evening then he will be from the people of al-Jannah (Paradise). And whoever says it in the night whilst he has firm conviction in it, and then he dies before the onset of the morning then he will be from the people of al-Jannah (Paradise).”

The Story Of 'Umar With Sabeegh

Naafi' (d. 117H) rahimahullaah the freed slave (Maulaa) of 'Abdullaah [b. 'Umar] radiallaahu anhumaa said:

“That Sabeegh (b. ‘Asal) al-Iraaqi started to ask questions regarding some aspects of the Qur’aan amongst the different territories of the Muslims until he came to Egypt. Then ‘Amr b. al-‘Aas (radiallaahu 'anhu) sent him to ‘Umar b. al- Khattaab (radiallaahu 'anhu), so when a messenger came to him (i.e. ‘Umar radiallaahu 'anhu) with the letter and after he had read it, he said: “Where is this man?” He (the messenger) replied: “He is on his way.” Umar (radiallaahu 'anhu) said: “Go find him, if he has left then you will surely receive a painful punishment from me.” So he brought him (Sabeegh) to him (‘Umar) and ‘Umar (radiallaahu 'anhu) said to him: "Do you ask about a newly invented matter (Muhdathah)?” Then ‘Umar sent for some wet date-palm leaves and he began to beat him with the wet date-palm leaves until his back was left with severe injuries. Then he left him until his injuries had healed up, again he returned to continually (beating) him, then again he left him until his injuries were healed up. Then again when he sent for him in order to continue with him, then Sabeegh said: “If it is that you want to kill me then kill me in a proficient manner, and if it is that you want to give me (treatment) medicine then by Allaah I have been cured.” Then he ('Umar b. al-Khattaab) permitted him to go back to his country and he wrote to Aboo Moosa al-Asha'ree: ‘Nobody from the Muslims should sit with him (Sabeegh b. 'Asal).’ Which was severe upon the man and Aboo Moosa wrote a letter back to 'Umar that he has made a good repentance. So 'Umar wrote back to him giving permission for the people to sit with him."

Shaykh Rabee mentioned: “As for ‘Umar, then his story with Sabeegh b. ‘Asal is famous and well known. Whereby, he (Sabeegh b. ‘Asal) used to cast some doubts amongst the people. So ‘Umar sent for him, and he gave him a severe beating and then put him in prison. Then he called for him another time, and he gave him another beating and put him in prison. Then at the third time he (Sabeegh) said: “O leader of the Believers, if you intend to kill me then kill me in a proficient manner. But if you want to take out what is in my head then by Allaah it has gone.” So [even after that] he (‘Umar) did not ever feel safe from him. After all that he exiled him to Iraq and ordered the people to boycott him. So this was in punishment for these doubts that he used to spread amongst the people; if you were to compare that to the innovations which are widespread [today] from the most trivial of innovations you will find a marked difference between what Sabeegh [b. ‘Asal] had and what these contemporaries have from misguidance. [Al-Mawqif as-Saheeh min Ahlil-Bid’ah by Shaykh Rabee’ b. Haadee al-Madkhalee].
