Oof. Caught a cough and a middle ear inflammation - on both sides. Been sick all week. Now on antibiotics.
I need to rant.

After more than a decade of lurking in this godforsaken place called Reddit, that has destroyed forum culture like the cancer that it is. That is nothing but a vehicle for advertisements, user profiling and data mining for AI training. I finally gave in and made an account. Just to make a long, well written post to ask for help to help a friend. Guess what happens next

Here's my post, maybe someone here can help. Sorry for /that/ topic again. I think modifying your body is pretty punk and biology is rad.

Huh, ChatGPT can do this now? How nice.

Actually pretty sad that you have to use an AI to search the web nowadays.

Update on this: I wrote a leeeenghty objection for my friend summarizing the legal requirements for off-label use in our country and a load of studies, reviews and recommendations that include the usage of GnRHa and also pointed out a bunch of places that have phased out CPA in favor of GnRHa.

The case handler at the health insurance didn't even look at it and pretended it's not her job. She asked if she could just pass this off, like she did for the initial application, to their assessment agency (MDK). The same one that claimed there is no data on GnRHa usage for trans* people. Because their search term for pubmed had a syntax error and they used the wrong name for the specific substance. Yes, you read that right. Seems like a lot of people working in the system just gave up.

I wrote her a stern eMail how it is very much her job to read and to decide on it, that she cannot delegate this, how utterly incompetent their assessment agency acted here and that there is zero wiggle room.

It went through. Finally.

I intend to file a grievance report with the assessment agency.

Not to boast, but without the work I put in my friend would not have managed to get the medication she needs because the system just grinds you down mentally until you give up.
It is much easier to do these things for other people than for yourself.

Since I'm talking about medical stuff here already.

I finally got a physical copy of my shiny new ADHD diagnosis.

But do I get meds? Nope. Not without my cardiologist getting involved. I asked the psychiatrist doing the ADHD diagnosis if she could talk to him, since he is in the same building just one or two floors up. Nope. "We don't do this here" she said.

It's now a year since I first got the ball rolling, and I'm still not on meds.

In my experience the whole ADHD diagnosis process is just one big gatekeeping thing. I know so many people who would need one and possibly meds, but do not have the spoons to even start the process because it's too much for them to handle. It is needlessly difficult. I'm not talking about the diagnostic routine itself, but all the overhead and waiting times.
