A witness in the trial accused an unnamed member of the Israeli embassy in Colombia of participating in a cocaine ring.
Last week, a confidential witness in a high-profile criminal case alleged that an Israeli embassy participated in a money-laundering scheme linked to the illicit trade of cocaine.
It was a major twist in the trial of Juan Orlando Hernandez, a former Honduran president now facing charges of participating in a “violent drug-trafficking conspiracy” while in office.
On the witness stand sat a convicted drug trafficker, going by the pseudonym Luis Perez. Originally from Colombia, Perez appeared in a United States district court in New York to testify against Hernandez, whom he accused of being involved in drug trafficking operations.
But as the defence team cross-examined Perez about his relationship with Hernandez, he revealed another alleged participant in the scheme: the Israeli embassy in Colombia.
“We worked with officials at the Israeli embassy,” Perez told defence lawyer Raymond Colon in Spanish while on the stand. “The woman who transported money for us from Honduras to Colombia was an official in the Israeli embassy.”
Perez, who was affiliated with the Sinaloa cartel, accused the unnamed official of laundering between $100m and $150m between 2008 and 2010.

Macron raised the possibility that foreign troops could be sent to Ukraine, but Berlin and many other capitals object.
French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné was in Lithuania on Friday, where he met his Baltic and Ukrainian counterparts to buttress the idea that foreign troops could end up helping Ukraine in areas like demining.
Séjourné repeatedly referred to mine clearance operations as a possibility, saying it "might mean having some personnel, [but] not to fight."
The meeting comes as Ukraine is suffering from an artillery ammunition shortage that is making it difficult to halt the fury of Russian attacks.
"Ukraine did not ask us to send troops. Ukraine is asking us to send ammunition at the moment," the French minister said. "We do not exclude anything for the coming months."
The Baltic ministers praised France for "thinking out of the box."

I didn’t celebrate International Women’s Day. Its history is cruel: it was imposed in the old USSR immediately after the 1917 Revolution and for the next decades there were slogans every year on March 8th about the glories of being a woman under socialism, while women died in their millions in the Soviet-imposed famines of the 1930s, were sent to forced labour in the gulag, or endured grim misery in ill-paid factory jobs while their children went to State nurseries.
March 8th holds no significant anniversary for women. The date was chosen to avoid any link with a Christian past and to force a secular calendar with no real history. For centuries, the real celebratory day for women has been March 25th, feast of the Annunciation, when the woman who changed the course of all human history conceived her divine son, and earth and Heaven rejoiced. When it comes to the dignity of women, it is the Christian heritage which soars above all other.
Mother Church honours and cherishes her daughters and Catholic women know it. There are more churches named after women than men, there were more women than men at the foot of the Cross, and most Catholics learn their first prayers from a woman and hear about the works of God from a woman’s voice. If asked to name a saint, most people will come up with a female rather than a male one: St Bernadette or St Therese of Lisieux rather than St Peter, St Thomas More, or St Edmund Campion. In popular culture and in the history of the Church, women are at the heart of Catholic life. The first known missionary was a woman – setting down her bucket by the well and running to tell everyone that she had met the Lord.
It is to a woman, Mary, that Catholics traditionally pray when in real need: “…I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother…”. The Church cries to Mary for help when things are tough: “And the tempest-tossed Church, all her eyes are on thee”. The most popular of all prayers, the Rosary, is a meditation on the great events of the incarnation and our salvation, prayed through Mary’s intercession.

Ensuring the Security of God’s Chosen People
When I was growing up, my dad would always gather our family together and we would pray for Israel. It was instilled in me from a very young age that the Jews were Gods chosen people, that Israel was the Holy Land, and that we should always pray for them.
I brought those fundamental ideals with me when I was in the State Legislature, when I served in Congress, and now as Governor of South Dakota. Supporting the State of Israel and our Jewish community has always been extremely important to me. It’s important to support Israel for spiritual, historical, and national security reasons. I am continuing to stand with the Jewish people by signing historic legislation to protect them from antisemitism.
