An overview of the role of interleukin-8 in colorectal cancer

New paper by CIP

🌀 Colorectal Cancer (CRC), a common malignancy, is developing globally among people. Mutagenic insults activate peripheral nucleated cells to secrete chemokines in order to cause an inflammatory state. Despite the presence of multi-retrieving factors, elevated production of minor cytokines may speed-up the sever stages of the baseline inflammation targeting normal compensatory mechanism. IL-8 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that is believed to be up-regulated in CRC to proceed primary condition into tumor behavior via induction of proliferation, angiogenesis and metastasis. Here, we assess the role of IL-8 in every step of CRC from signaling pathway and formation to invasion and discuss around new perspective therapy that targets IL-8 to manage CRC worldwide incidence and survival rate, more precisely.

Lessons from the Embryo: an Unrejected Transplant and a Benign Tumor

New paper by CIP

🌀Embryogenesis is regarded the ‘miracle of life’, yet numerous aspects of this process are not fully understood. As embryo grows in the mother’s womb, immune components, stem cells and microenvironmental cues cooperate among others to promote embryonic development. Evidently, these key players are frequently associated with transplantation failure and tumor growth. While fields of transplantation and cancer biology do not overlap, both can be viewed from the perspective of an embryo. As ‘unrejected transplant’ and ‘benign tumor’, lessons from embryonic development may reveal features of transplants and tumors that have been overlooked. Therefore, eavesdropping at these natural complex events during pregnancy may inspire more durable approaches to arrest transplant rejection or cancer progression.

Epicardial adipose tissue, inflammatory biomarkers and COVID-19: Is there a possible relationship?

🌀Adipose tissue is a biologically active organ with pro-immunogenic properties.
🌀Inflammation plays a major role in the pathogenesis and progression of COVID-19.
🌀Data representing status of inflammation could convey useful prognostic information.
🌀EAT volume was significantly correlated with other systemic inflammatory biomarkers.
🌀This correlation might explain the more severe disease in obese patients with COVID-19.

✅ یک مطالعه مورد-شاهدی جدید به این نتیجه رسیده است که افراد مبتلا به سرطان، به‌خصوص لوسمی، لنفوم غیرهوجکین و سرطان ریه، در خطر بالاتری برای ابتلا به COVID-19 و همچنین پیامدهای بدتر در اثر COVID-19 هستند. این مطالعه در نشریه علمی JAMA Oncology منتشر شده است.

✅ این خطر در افراد سیاه‌پوست مبتلا به سرطان بیش‌تر است. در بیماران مبتلا به لنفوم غیرهوجکین و سرطان کولئورکتال، این خطر در زنان بیش‌تر است.

✅ این نتایج بر اساس اطلاعات الکترونیکی سلامت ۷۳٫۴ میلیون آمریکایی به‌دست آمده است. از این تعداد، بیش از ۲٫۵ میلیون نفر حداقل یکی از ۱۳ سرطان شایع را داشتند. در بین بیش از ۱۶ هزار نفر مبتلا به COVID-19، حدود ۱۲۰۰ نفر مبتلا به سرطان بودند.

🌀miRNAs are a group of non-coding RNAs that have regulatory functions in post-trannoscriptional gene expression.
🌀miRNAs play a fundamental role in cellular processes, for instance cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, and invasion.
🌀miRNAs can either promote or suppress tumor development by mediating different signaling pathways.
🌀miR-139-5p might be an attractive cancer biomarker.
