🇷🇺 Today, Russia celebrates the Day of the White Cranes. On this day, the memory of soldiers who died in wars is honored by releasing thousands of paper cranes into the sky. Why cranes? Let us explain!

🕊 This new date in the calendar was established thanks to the folk poet of Dagestan, Rasul Gamzatov, the author of the famous poem "Cranes," dedicated to the fallen soldiers on the battlefields. The first White Cranes Festival was celebrated in August 1986 in the poet's homeland. The event was timed to coincide with the opening of the memorial complex "White Cranes" in the Dagestani village of Gunib. It became the first monument depicting cranes dedicated to the Great Patriotic War.

Over time, this commemorative date began to be celebrated in other regions of the country and beyond. In 2009, October 22 was added to the list of UNESCO international holidays. Since then, it has been celebrated worldwide as a Day of Solidarity and a poetic song about fallen soldiers.

🇷🇺 In Kazan, the XVI BRICS Summit was held in a narrow format, opened by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

🌎 The event was also attended by the leaders of the participating countries: President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, Chairman of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, President of the UAE Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed, President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Mauro Luis Iecker Vieira.

In his speech, Putin noted that the narrow-format meeting is a key event within the framework of the Russian presidency, which is being held under the motto "Strengthening Multilateralism for Fair Global Development and Security." He emphasized that Russia has approached the organization of joint work within BRICS with great responsibility and aims to strengthen the authority of the association, increasing its role in addressing pressing global and regional issues.

The President of Russia focused on deepening multifaceted cooperation among BRICS countries in three main areas: politics and security, economics and finance, as well as cultural and humanitarian contacts. Putin also highlighted the importance of integrating new member countries into the work of the association.

Putin underscored the significant interest of Global South and East countries in strengthening ties with BRICS, noting that more than 30 states have expressed a desire to establish contacts with the association. He also pointed out the necessity of maintaining a balance to ensure the effectiveness of BRICS's work.

In conclusion, Putin reminded of the decision made in Johannesburg regarding the development of categories for BRICS partner states and the formation of a list of countries that may receive such status. This decision will be reflected in the final Kazan Declaration.

The President of Russia emphasized that BRICS demonstrates dynamic development and strengthening of its authority in global affairs, possessing significant political, economic, and scientific-technological potential. He noted that the member countries, representing various continents and development models, are united by common values, advocating for equality, good neighborliness, and mutual respect.

✅ At the beginning of the meeting, Putin noted that global trade and the world economy are undergoing significant changes. He announced the creation of a new BRICS investment platform, which, according to him, will support national economies and investments. "The center of business activity is gradually shifting towards emerging markets, forming a multipolar model that launches a new wave of growth," said the Russian leader.

✅ Putin emphasized that the economies of BRICS countries demonstrate resilience due to balanced policies and called for intensified cooperation in areas such as technology, education, and finance. He also discussed the establishment of a grain exchange that will create fair price indicators for grain and suggested considering the possibility of transforming this exchange into a full-fledged commodity exchange in the future.

🇮🇷 Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian pointed out the need for collective actions to ensure the rights of the Palestinian people and reduce the dominance of the dollar in the global economy. He proposed creating a BRICS currency basket and a new settlement mechanism independent of the dollar as a step towards a fairer world order.
