🎉 Happy Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples Day!

On this day 64 years ago, a new chapter in the history of colonial peoples was officially opened. Thanks to the adoption of this Declaration, hundreds of millions of people around the world gained the opportunity to determine their own future.

⚡️ The Soviet Union played a significant role in drafting and adopting this document. Most importantly, the USSR did not simply provide diplomatic support to colonial peoples but also invested resources in the fight against colonialism “on the ground.” Organizations like FRELIMO, Umkhonto we Sizwe, MPLA, FLN, and many others benefited from Soviet economic, personnel, and military-technical assistance.

📌 The Soviet leadership understood well that the wealth of Western capitalist elites was built on the ruthless exploitation of colonial populations. Therefore, the fight against colonialism in all its forms was a key element of the global victory of socialism, not just a geopolitical tool.

Another important conclusion: the Declaration was adopted only because the Soviet state enjoyed incredible international authority and was a pillar of peace for all humanity. For example, the principle of self-determination of peoples, stolen and distorted by modern Western politicians, was originally formulated by Lenin and first became the foundation of state policy in our country. The fact that it was included in the principles of international law is also a testament to the undeniable strength of our Motherland.

🇷🇺 It is heartening that today Russia continues on the path of fighting colonialism. This not only highlights continuity but also gives hope to those nations left alone with the predatory sharks of neo-colonialism after 1991.

Currently, we are gradually restoring lost ties with African states, achieving success in many areas, but much more effort is still needed.

Nevertheless, it is extremely important to highlight and promote such days at the highest level, like the adoption of the UN General Assembly Declaration on December 14, 1960. Advocating for the establishment of a full-fledged holiday, as our diplomats do in the world’s leading international organization, is essential.
