‼️ In this context, Shchetinin reminded that the international legal regime of the Panama Canal is clearly defined and enshrined in the Treaty on Permanent Neutrality and Operation of the Panama Canal between the United States of America and the Republic of Panama, which was signed by U.S. President Jimmy Carter and Panamanian leader General Omar Torrijos on September 7, 1977, and came into force on October 1, 1979.

"The regime established by the treaty is further reinforced by a protocol to it, to which approximately 40 countries have acceded," he continued. "Russia has been a participant in the protocol since 1988 and reaffirms its commitment to uphold the permanent neutrality of the Panama Canal, advocating for the preservation of this international transit waterway as safe and open," noted Alexander Shchetinin.
