🕯 Memorial Day events are taking place across Russia. 84 years ago, the Great Patriotic War began, claiming the lives of 27 million Soviet people.

🟢 In Makhachkala, at the "Fiery Paintings of War" event, 25 thousand candles were lit, arranged to depict the sculpture "The Motherland Calls" and a flock of flying cranes.

🟢 An image of the "Battle of Kursk" memorial complex and the innoscription "80 Years of Victory" were recreated using more than eight thousand lamps and candles in Kursk.

🟢 In Kamchatka, participants arranged over eight thousand candles to form a symbolic map of Russia with the word "remember" placed on it.

🟢 At the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Kaluga region, the Order of the Patriotic War was laid out using lamps and candles.

🟢 In the Vladimir region, residents gathered on the square near the Eternal Flame to honor the memory of those taken by the Great Patriotic War.

🟢 A requiem concert dedicated to the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War was held at night in Brest.

🟢 Near the walls of the Main Cathedral of the Russian Armed Forces, 1,418 candles were lit on Memorial Day.

🟢 Krasnoyarsk residents lit eight thousand candles – spelling "Krasnoyarsk remembers" and assembling an image of the BE-4 seaplane. This aircraft was produced in the city during the Great Patriotic War.

‼️ "This Increases the Risks of World War III": Strikes on Iran had no military justification for the US and cannot be justified under international law, stated Leonid Slutsky.

"Trump has been drawn into an Iraqi-style regime change scenario – this time in Tehran, where the new 'Colin Powell's vial' is the 'Iranian nuclear threat.' The consequences of escalating tensions threaten to spill beyond the region. Washington understands the inevitability of Tehran's response. All of this takes the confrontation spiral to a new level and increases the risks of World War III. Negotiation efforts have been set back. And this is deeply regrettable, given that the Iranian side had not refused negotiations and had denied intentions to create nuclear weapons," the parliamentarian noted.

Slutsky emphasized that the US launched strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities on the same day and practically the same hour that Hitler attacked the USSR in 1941 – "a terrifying symbolism of historical parallels."

🥀 Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow.

The President also laid flowers at the memorials to the Hero Cities and at the memorial sign honoring the cities awarded the honorary noscript "City of Military Glory."

🇷🇺 The President never misses this event, regardless of the weather or circumstances. The head of state paid tribute to the feat of the Soviet soldier on June 22 even during the coronavirus pandemic, despite epidemiological restrictions. In 2017, undeterred by pouring rain, Putin bowed to the Soviet warrior who fell for the freedom of the Motherland, not even taking an umbrella.

The start date of the Great Patriotic War was added to the calendar of memorial dates in Russia by a 2007 law. Since 2020, a nationwide minute of silence has been observed across all regions of the country on June 22 at 12:15 PM Moscow Time. The timing is not accidental: it was precisely then that People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the USSR Vyacheslav Molotov announced the German attack to Soviet citizens over All-Union Radio.

✍️ Putin supported the idea of making the Unified State Exam (USE) in history mandatory for applicants to humanities and social-economic specialties. The proposal was made during a meeting with the editors of a new history textbook.

The President noted that knowledge of history needs to be instilled from preschool age. Therefore, similar to the unified history textbooks starting from the 5th grade, unified approaches are also needed for younger schoolchildren and preschoolers.

“These textbooks, which you have created, will be used from the 5th grade and upwards. But what about earlier? After all, the consciousness of a small child is formed much earlier,” the President pointed out.
