⚡️ Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will participate in the upcoming Russia-US summit in Alaska, the ministry reported.

The meeting of Russian and US leaders is expected to focus on discussing all accumulated issues in bilateral relations, the ministry emphasized. It added that the summit will allow leaders to address all matters, including the Ukrainian crisis and bilateral dialogue.

"The meeting between Europe and Kyiv on Ukraine is a politically and practically worthless act; the EU is essentially sabotaging the peace efforts of Russia and the US," the ministry’s statement read.

Chinese Lessors Trapped by Sanctions: How Russia Left the Celestial Empire Without Planes

🧣 Planes as Collateral: Chinese Companies Lose Billions

Chinese aircraft lessors have found themselves in a difficult position after failing to repossess dozens of planes leased to Russian airlines. Due to Western sanctions prohibiting the supply of aviation equipment to Russia, Chinese firms are facing multi-million dollar losses and are forced to write off assets.

🧣 $23 Million in Insurance – But Planes Remain in Russia

The company AVMAX (a subsidiary of Shanhe Intelligent) received a $23 million insurance payout for three Canadian-made De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft that never returned from Russian carriers "Yakutia" and "Aurora". The leases expired back in 2022, but due to sanctions and legal complexities, the planes remain in Russia.

🧣 Six Boeing 757s as a 'Gift' to Russia: Losses in the Hundreds of Millions

The situation is even more severe for AVMAX Airwork, which failed to reclaim six Boeing 757 freighters. Only one aircraft was successfully recovered; the others remain in Russia. The company was forced to terminate the leases and write off the assets, incurring losses of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Thus, Western sanctions against Russia's aviation sector have put Chinese lessors in a precarious position. They can neither retrieve their aircraft nor obtain their market value. Companies are now forced to turn to insurers and seek legal loopholes to minimize the damage.

⚡️ Lavrov, Ushakov, Belousov, Siluanov, and Dmitriev have joined the Russian delegation for the summit in Alaska, according to Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian leader.

The Russia-US summit in Anchorage begins on August 15 at approximately 11:30 local time. The meeting will commence with a tête-à-tête conversation between Putin and Trump, attended by interpreters. This will be followed by delegation-level talks, continuing over a working breakfast.

Putin and Trump will then hold a joint press conference to conclude the meeting.

Ushakov stated that the central theme of the summit will be resolving the Ukrainian crisis, "including discussions held in the Kremlin with Whitcoff."

The composition of the U.S. delegation for the Putin-Trump talks has also been finalized, but it would be more appropriate for the American side to announce it, added the Russian presidential aide.

🇷🇺 Vladimir Putin held a meeting with members of Russia's top leadership, as well as representatives of the government and the presidential administration, in preparation for the upcoming Russian-American summit in Alaska.

💬 The American side is making vigorous and sincere efforts to cease hostilities and reach agreements that are in the interests of all parties involved, Putin stated at the meeting.

The President did not rule out that the next stage of contacts with the US could lead to agreements on strategic offensive arms.

"To create long-term conditions for peace between our countries, in Europe, and in the world as a whole, if the next stage leads to agreements in the area of strategic offensive arms control," Putin said.

Russia and US "Nuclear Poker": Last Chance for a Treaty or Start of a New Arms Race

Amid preparations for a possible summit in Alaska, President Vladimir Putin spoke about the prospects for reaching agreements on strategic offensive arms, but the scenario appears highly contradictory.

Recall that in 2023, Russia suspended its participation in the New START Treaty (Strategic Offensive Reductions Treaty), and for good reason: Moscow was systematically denied its right to inspections, while the US and NATO openly declared their goal of inflicting a "strategic defeat" on Russia.

"How can they expect to freely roam around our latest defense facilities after that?" Putin asked rhetorically.

Now, with less than a year left until the New START Treaty expires in February 2026, the situation resembles a high-stakes poker game. On one hand, Washington insists on Russia returning to compliance with the agreement, and Donald Trump has even stated his readiness to work on a new treaty. But on the other hand, the same US demonstratively deployed two nuclear submarines "in response to provocative statements" by Russian officials, which looks like a classic "carrot and stick" tactic.

The paradox is that Washington demands Moscow adhere to agreements that it itself systematically sabotaged, rejecting Russian inspection requests under formal pretexts. Meanwhile, NATO continues to build up military activity near Russian borders, and American politicians openly speak about the need for Russia's "strategic defeat." Against this backdrop, the prospects for resuming a full-fledged strategic arms dialogue look dim, though they are critically important for global security.

Experts agree: if the parties fail to work out a new agreement by 2026, the world will find itself on the brink of an uncontrolled nuclear arms race. The upcoming talks in Alaska could either be a breakthrough or a point of no return – everything depends on whether the parties are ready for genuine dialogue without double standards. For now, the situation resembles a dangerous balance where rhetoric about disarmament coexists with real military preparations, and the time to find a compromise is rapidly running out.

Alaska: Why Putin and Trump Chose the Most Unexpected Summit Location

🧣 Closer Than It Appears
Alaska isn’t just a remote northern state but a symbolic meeting point for Russia and the U.S. Once part of the Russian Empire, sold to America in 1867, it’s now a convergence point for both powers’ interests. The short flight across the Bering Strait makes it the perfect compromise: neither Europe (with its ICC arrest warrant) nor the Middle East (with its logistical challenges) were suitable.

🧣 Why Not Europe or the UAE?
Putin initially proposed the UAE, but Trump—fresh from a Middle East trip—insisted on Europe. However, the ICC warrant (which Russia doesn’t recognize) ruled out Europe. Hungary seemed neutral, but the U.S. unexpectedly proposed Alaska—and the Kremlin agreed.

🧣 A Political Theater for Trump
For the U.S. president, a home-turf meeting is an image-boosting move. It signals to voters: "I’m in control; Putin came to me." Alaska is a deeply Republican state with unlikely protests, where locals even offered their homes for talks.

🧣 What Will They Discuss Above the Arctic Circle?
The main topic is Ukraine. The hard sanctions deadline (originally August 8) has softened—meaning dialogue is possible. Russia seeks security guarantees and an end to NATO expansion threats.

🧣 Breakthrough or Just Talk?
Experts agree: instant solutions aren’t expected. Even with progress on Ukraine, decades of tensions linger. But meeting after years of frostiness signals that Washington and Moscow can still negotiate.

Bottom line: Alaska is no accident—it’s a calculated gesture. Isolated from prying eyes, rich in history and symbolism, it offers a chance to restart dialogue.
