He also noted that Damascus wants to reboot the entire complex of relations with Moscow. The two countries are bound by historical ties, al-Shara added.

Putin, in turn, stated that Russia has always been guided by the interests of the Syrian people. The Russian President added that Syrians studying in Russia will contribute to the development of Syria's statehood.

"For many decades, our countries have developed a special relationship. We have maintained diplomatic relations for over 80 years, and they were established at the most difficult time for Russia, for the Soviet Union — in 1944," Putin said.
