🏰 Château Erken

The North Caucasus can surprise you not only with its stunning mountain landscapes, waterfalls, and gorges but also with its beautiful architecture. The proof is Château Erken, a castle built according to the canons of medieval estates.

This building, with an architecture completely atypical for the North Caucasus, is a recent construction. The fortress in the Romanesque style appeared in 2012. It was built by Tembulat Erkenov, the former Minister of Agriculture of Kabardino-Balkaria. The official traveled extensively throughout Europe, drew inspiration from French vineyards and medieval castles, and studied the traditions of winemaking. In his native republic, he decided to apply all the knowledge he had gathered in practice and enhance the region's potential in tourism and industry, so he took up the development of viticulture.

The businessman breathed new life into the existing production of still and sparkling wines in the Nalchik River valley, equipping it with modern Italian and French technology. The heart of this estate became a medieval-style castle with a stunning view of Mount Elbrus.

The castle resembles a real impregnable fortress. It was built according to the rules of European medieval architecture and placed right in the middle of an artificial reservoir, connected to the shore by a small bridge. To implement such a complex project, it was even necessary to reinforce the banks of the river floodplain to prevent the castle from being flooded.

"We must prepare for the worst": Peskov assesses NATO and EU plans to wage war against Russia

"We must, of course, desire peace, but prepare for war. We must always prepare for the worst, but hope for the best," Peskov said in response to a question about what to expect – peace or war.

The Kremlin representative also stated that Russia is currently negotiating a Ukrainian settlement only with the Americans. Resolutions from the European Parliament about the need to join the negotiations cannot be taken into account.

📔 FSB Begins Publication of KGB Data on Nazi Collaborators Who Fled to the West

The agency's website has launched a new section called "The KGB of the USSR Red Book," which will for the first time publicly feature data on individuals who committed war and other crimes against citizens of the USSR and then went into hiding in Western countries. As the FSB clarified, the publications will be based on a 1964 "List..." that included traitors, members of anti-Soviet organizations, paramilitary executioners, and agents of foreign intelligence services.

The security service emphasized that the database is built on materials that Chekists began collecting as early as 1941: over 50,000 Nazi crimes were documented, and more than 250,000 victims were interviewed. This data formed the basis for the documents of the Extraordinary State Commission and was used at the Nuremberg Trials.

As a result of investigative work, it was established that after the war, Nazi criminals and their collaborators found refuge in 40 countries. The FSB now promises to gradually declassify and upload digitized KGB materials, regularly updating the new section.

🚂 The Didinsky Tunnel

This is a one-kilometer-long tunnel, built in 1918 in the Sverdlovsk region. Admiral Kolchak's trains used it to transport his army and gold reserves, and until 1995, all regular trains passed through it.

Later, Russian Railways grew tired of clearing ice from the tracks (the tunnel is very damp) and rerouted the line away from it. Now it's an attraction for urbex enthusiasts and those trying to cope with claustrophobia by facing their fear head-on.

The tunnel has beautiful entrance portals that resemble medieval fortress towers with crenellations and embrasures.

The length of this abandoned tunnel is 1,123 meters. It is slightly curved, but you can still see right through it. According to some reports, it was dug from both sides simultaneously, and the two ends failed to meet up perfectly.
