A recent cyber-espionage attack attributed to Chinese state-sponsored hackers has infiltrated the core of U.S. telecommunications systems, exposing critical vulnerabilities in the country’s communications infrastructure. The breach, carried out by a group linked to Chinese intelligence and known as "Salt Typhoon," has been described as the most serious hack of its kind in U.S. history.

Senator Mark Warner, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, expressed shock at the depth of the breach, calling it a wake-up call for U.S. cybersecurity. He stressed that the hackers had likely suspended their operations to avoid detection, but it remains unclear how deeply they are embedded within the system.

“This is far and away the most serious telecom hack in our history,” Warner said, adding that the breach had affected all major U.S. telecommunications providers.

In a speech at a military exhibition on Thursday in Pyongyang, Kim said his previous experience of negotiations with Washington only highlighted its "aggressive and hostile" policy against Pyongyang, KCNA said.

"Never before have the warring parties on the Korean peninsula faced such a dangerous and acute confrontation that it could escalate into the most destructive thermonuclear war," Kim said, according to KCNA.
