German Spy Agency (BND) found 80%-90% likelihood that COVID-19 accidentally leaked from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).

Indications show that WIV conducted gain-of-function research, modifying viruses for research purposes. There are vidence of multiple safety violations at the lab.

In January 2025, the CIA stated that COVID-19 was more likely to have originated from a lab than naturally.

China denies all claims, saying WIV never conducted gain-of-function research on coronaviruses.
