Erdogan to Meet Trump at NATO Summit

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague today.

The meeting aims to mend strained ties over Türkiye’s purchase of Russia’s S-400 missile defense system, which led the U.S. to block Ankara from acquiring F-35 fighter jets.

Erdogan is expected to offer assurances that the S-400 system will be used in a controlled manner in hopes of persuading Trump to lift the F-35 ban.

Türkiye seeks to buy 40 F-35s and 40 F-16s to enhance NATO interoperability and strengthen deterrence on the alliance’s southeastern flank.
