Iran Acquires Chinese Missiles After Ceasefire With Israel

Iran has received Chinese surface-to-air missile (SAM) batteries following its recent 12-day conflict with Israel.

The delivery, made after a de facto ceasefire on June 24, is part of Tehran’s effort to rebuild its air defences destroyed during Israeli strikes.

Iran is reportedly paying for the missile systems with oil shipments, deepening its trade ties with Beijing. China already imports nearly 90% of Iran’s crude exports, often using transshipment routes through countries like Malaysia to bypass US sanctions.

While the number and type of missiles transferred remain unclear, Iran is believed to operate various Chinese and Russian air defence systems, including the HQ-9 and Russia's S-300. These defences are seen as limited against advanced Israeli aircraft like the US-made F-35.

France Demands 80% Share in Franco-German Fighter Jet Project

France has told Germany it wants an 80% workshare in the joint Franco-German FCAS fighter jet program, a defence source told Reuters.

The €100 billion project, involving Dassault (France), Airbus (Germany), and Indra (Spain), has faced repeated delays over disputes around workshare and intellectual property.

If France insists on its demand, it would upend previous agreements and could derail the program's next phase, due by year-end.

The project, launched in 2017 by President Macron and then-Chancellor Merkel, was meant to symbolize European unity but has become a source of ongoing Franco-German tension. A German lawmaker warned that France’s push for dominance could be the “final nail in the coffin” for the project.

The latest unrest may also revive speculation about merging FCAS with the rival UK-Italy-Japan GCAP stealth jet program.

Armenia: Pashinyan Targets Church Leadership

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan announced he will personally lead the “liberation” of the Armenian Apostolic Church, accusing it of being taken over by an “anti-Christian, anti-state group.”

Several clergy have already been arrested, along with Russian-Armenian oligarch Samvel Karapetyan, who defended the Church. He is accused of inciting a coup.

Pashinyan had previously called on Catholicos Karekin II to step down.
