Ultra-Orthodox Party Quits Netanyahu’s Coalition

Degel HaTorah — part of the United Torah Judaism alliance — exited Netanyahu’s government over a controversial military draft exemption bill.

Backed by top rabbis, the party’s MKs resigned, citing broken promises on key clauses like sanctions and exemption boards.

Agudat Yisrael (UTJ’s other faction) followed, stripping the coalition of its 7-seat Haredi bloc and leaving Netanyahu with just 60 seats in the 120-member Knesset — a lost majority.

Shas (11 seats) remains for now, but has warned it could quit next, raising the threat of early elections in 2026.
