NEW: Türkiye Blocks Greek Cypriot Seabed Move

On August 5, Greek Cypriot authorities attempted to advance a fiber-optic cable project using the Gibraltar-flagged vessel “Fugro Gauss,” entering Türkiye’s continental shelf under an illegal NAVTEX.

Türkiye responded swiftly.
The navy was dispatched to the area and the ship was warned via patrol aircraft.
The Turkish authorities declared the Greek Cypriot NAVTEX null and void.
The operation was blocked, similar to a previous incident with Greece near Karpathos in 2024.
