A Sky News investigation has revealed that Israel is secretly backing a Gaza militia led by Yasser Abu Shabab, a former looter who is now positioning himself as a post-war ruler of Gaza.

The group, known as the Popular Forces, has received food from the US-funded Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, despite the charity’s claim of neutrality.

Interviews with an IDF soldier and a militia commander confirm that Israel allows the smuggling of cash, cars and weapons to the group through the Kerem Shalom crossing.

Satellite images and social media videos show the militia living in luxury within southern Gaza, surrounded by villas, imported vehicles and stacks of cash, while much of the enclave remains in ruins.

A leaked UN report previously named Abu Shabab’s men as key players in the looting of aid convoys, with cigarette smuggling as their main source of income.

The IDF soldier told Sky News that coordination with the Popular Forces runs through Israel’s Shin Bet and involves Muslim Bedouin troops from Unit 585, stationed at the border.

Experts say the strategy mirrors past Israeli efforts to “divide and conquer” Palestinian factions, using local warlords to weaken Hamas’s control and preserve Israeli influence in Gaza.

Although the group denies political ambitions, Abu Shabab’s commanders now speak openly about plans to govern Gaza, reform schools and hold a referendum on relations with Israel.

Sudan’s RSF militia has obtained Chinese-made FB-10A surface-to-air missile system after the previously acquired Chinese-made FK-2000 air defence system.

The system, originally bought by Chad from China in a UAE-backed deal in February 2025, was diverted to the RSF instead of entering Chadian service, likely breaching UN embargoes.

The FB-10A, a mobile SHORAD platform (range ~25 km), defends against drones and low-flying aircraft.

The UAE is accused of arming the RSF via proxies in Chad and Libya.
