Ukrainian start-up Fire Point, once a small film casting agency, has become a major drone manufacturer with $1 billion in military contracts.

Fire Point grew out of Ukraine’s film industry linked to President Zelensky’s past entertainment career — its owner’s company once scouted locations for Zelensky’s 2016 movie Eight Best Dates, among other projects.

The company faces corruption and quality allegations as Ukraine rapidly builds a domestic defense industry.

Fire Point’s drones carry out about 60% of Ukraine’s strikes inside Russia, making up 10% of the country’s defense spending — despite a government audit noting the firm skipped required price negotiations.
