152 years ago, on May 28, 1871, the Paris Commune, the first working-class government in history, fell.

In the bloody week of May 21-27, 1871, thousands of armed defenders of the Paris Commune were forced out by Versailles troops from most of Paris to the northeastern quarters. To the last drop of blood, defending each quarter, the heroic defenders of the Commune fought. The last to fall was the barricade on Rue Ramponneau.

The last defenders of the Commune were shot in the Père Lachaise cemetery on 29 May. During the fighting and executions, 25 thousand Communards were killed, about 40 thousand were thrown into prison or sent to hard labor in New Caledonia and Algeria.

After the massacre of the Commune, Thiers self-confidently declared: "There is no more talk of socialism, well, that's fine! Now we have got rid of socialism." But at the same time, the poet of the Commune, Eugene Pottier, hiding from the brutalized Versailles, seemed to answer Thiers and his henchmen, creating a prophetic anthem of the proletariat: "We are ours, we will build a new world. Who was nothing, he will become everything." A few days earlier, K. Marx, speaking at a meeting of the General Council of the International, declared that “The death of the Commune will only delay the continuation of the struggle. The principles of the Commune are eternal and cannot be destroyed; they will again and again declare themselves as long as the working class won't be released."

The cause of the Commune, in a different situation, in a different country, was continued by the revolutions of 1905 and 1917.

The main stream media is trying to turn people against the striking rail workers because of the dates in which they are set to strike.

This same narrative used for the cup was used when strikes clashed with the Liverpool Eurovision without explanation of why this occurs.

The Eurovision clash was claimed to be chosen maliciously. Mick Lynch dispelled this by explaining it was chosen because it was the last day of the mandate.

The limitations imposed on trade unions are what create these issues.
The union has to serve the company with notice 7 days prior to ballot and 14 days prior to strike action.
After which they have a mandate for 6 months to strike before having to return to ballot.

None of this is ever explained in the media when accusing striking workers of causing disruptions!
These anti-trade union laws are created to make trade unionism as difficult as possible.

Or strike action could be avoided entirely if workers were paid adequately for their labour!

It always strikes us as ridiculous when an essential service, such as child care, is given a % of funding for claimants.

With rising costs it is rare to have single working families. Rent is over 50% of the average wage with energy prices and council tax taking up a good chunk.
To be able to afford to live today you need two wages, so parents will seek nurseries to help with young children.
The average nursery fees are £263 a week, £1,052 a month.
The average part time wage for UK workers is £14,727.
Most families work one parent full time and one part time which negates any government funds towards childcare.
This leaves the worker with very little disposable income and with rising prices that becomes even less!

Focusing on the childcare. This is an important function of society. It allows workers the freedom to attend their jobs & socialises children from a young age which is important for their development.
Using this to squeeze even more profit is abhorrent and counter productive.
But this is the mindset of the capitalists. Short term thinking for constant profit.
To give people meaningful existence the only way forward is a planned a economy.
The only way is socialism.

The glut of grain in EU isn't because of war. It's industrial food production under neoliberal capitalism. Food price crisis is not about shortage. It's distribution and dysfunctional markets. We need a complete and radical transformation in food production, distribution and delivery.

This is a story we hear over and over again. Inadequate care homes that equate to abuse of our vulnerable elderly.
The media will have you believe that these are unrelated issues. A few bad apples, but in truth this is systematic of private care homes.
Poorly paid staff, inadequate services and unsafe living conditions. All this stems from the need for profit.
Profit based services will never provide appropriate care at the shallow end of the profit pool.

Workers in their twilight years deserve to be treated with the respect their years of service to society deserves.
