The news that public trust in the police is at an all-time low will surprise nobody who has seen the steady degeneration of other state institutions, nor will it come as a revelation to anyone living in an area affected by crime.

A thread.

🇫🇷French President Emmanuel Macaron likes to rant about the rights of women in his country, while on the streets they face blatant brutality from law enforcement.

Listening to this hireling of finance capital, who happily colludes with every kind of crime against the workers and oppressed peoples of the world on a daily basis, talk about 'women's rights' is frankly sickening.

We do know the enemy Monsieur le président: it's people like you and the system you schill for.

Women's enemy isn't 'habit' or 'glass ceilings' or men, it's class society -- as represented today by the imperialist system and the financial uberlords who gain from the continued existence of that rotten and visibly decaying order.

The appalling amount of distress that exists in every town in Britain must arrest the attention of all duty-loving men and women. No one who sees the effects of want and the fear of want can passively behold the dire poverty of a large section of the workers. Rather will he probe and probe until he finds the cause of the disease. Socialists have probed and they find the disease of want to be spread by the profit-making system upon which all industry and society itself is based. They know that five or six centuries ago, without machinery, Englishmen obtained for their work sufficient to keep them in vigorous health and that they were not subject to periodical trade depressions; & when they further reflect upon the fact that the working day then consisted of no more than eight hours, no wonder that socialists are discontented with the present state of affairs, and that they resolve to use every means in their power to replace the present discord, misery, & anarchy, with harmony, happiness, and order.

Happy birthday Che Guevara, the Marxist icon par excellence, who changed the world forever during his short life! Starting as a humanitarian doctor, forged by the catastrophic consequences of capitalism in Latin America, and immortalized in the communist struggle – for Che Guevara, words and deeds were the same.

In 1953, bidding farewell to his parents, Guevara started with his legendary motorcycle trip across Latin America. He first encountered his future comrade-in-arms in Mexico, the young Fidel Castro, preparing for the guerrilla struggle in Cuba.

Years of guerrilla warfare followed, during which Che became the comandante of the Cuban revolutionaries, whose victory catapulted him onto the world stage. However, his revolutionary urge was not satisfied, and he once again threw himself into the guerrilla fight.

When the Bolivian army captured Guevara after a fierce battle in 1967, his captors executed him on the spot, following orders from the CIA. The murder made him immortal.

Sophie’s ‘hot take’ is as old as the hills. It has always been a view taken by a section of the working class that distrusts the trade unions and generally supports and, come election time, votes for the Conservatives.

Strike action is taken by the members - the rank and file of any trade union, not by mythical ‘union bosses’, whoever they are. No legal strike action can take place in this country without a postal ballot, with legal thresholds for minimum turnouts and votes in favour of strike.

Thresholds which, it should be said, do not exist for the election of our oppressors.

No strike action is led by a ‘union boss’ dragging their poor, unwilling and downtrodden members who only want a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work, into losing money against their will.

That is a fantasy spun by the ruling class and their servants like Sophie.

Anyone who knows anything about trade unionism would know that the main roadblock faced by workers fighting for better pay, terms and conditions are the very trade union bosses Sophie criticises.

Trade unions leaders are, more often than not, dragged into disputes by their members, not the other way round.

Working class people should stand shoulder to shoulder with their fellow workers when they fight for better lives for their families and themselves.

And working class people should reject the ‘know your place, don’t rise above yourself, be grateful you have a job and reject the trade union barons’ anti-working class rubbish spouted by people like Sophie Corcoran.
