Although clubs like Liverpool, Livorno, St. Pauli, and Celtic are celebrated for their anti-racist and leftist fanbases, it should not be misunderstood that these clubs operate as symbols of socialism. In reality, they are deeply embedded in the capitalist system, driven by profit motives and market interests, functioning as part of the commercial and spectacle-driven football industry—far removed from the revolutionary ideals they are sometimes associated with.

This is absolutely correct. While some of these clubs may be draped in a veneer of radicalism, the reality is starkly different. Top teams like Celtic and Liverpool have long since shed their working-class roots to function primarily as profit-driven enterprises. Their purpose now is to generate revenue through shirt sales, sponsorship deals, and global marketing. While their historical fan bases were deeply rooted in the working class and carried a sense of social awareness, any revolutionary sentiment they once embodied has withered away. In truth, these clubs now reflect the broader conditions of capitalist society: hollowed out, commodified, and disconnected from the struggles of ordinary people.
